Afghanistan
Re: Afghanistan
Well it doesn't help when you have a president saying things in press conferences that is contradictory to what the intelligence community and journalists/people on the ground are saying.
It's no wonder these members of congress from BOTH parties felt it was worth risking their lives to go over there to try to figure out what the hell is really going on so that they and the rest of congress can help.

Re: Afghanistan
It wasn't helpful to anything when AOC performed her shtick at the US-Mexico border when Trump was Prez and I dont see this visit being "helpful" either but if they get back OK and do something more than grandstand about what they saw for their own political gain then the hassle of getting them there and back safely will have been worth it.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 10:58 amTraditionKU wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 10:53 am anyone else think that the two congressman going to Kabul right now was a bad idea?
seems to me the resources used to support their trip would’ve been better served had they been directed elsewhereLOL really can't make this stuff up.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:33 am all he wants is the opportunity to gloat and point fingers

Not surprising out of ALL of the shit going on, you're mad that 2 people went to help.
GO TEAM!

Re: Afghanistan
Two members of the House making a secret trip to Afghanistan doesn't help anything. They did not get the required approvals to make such a trip and did not notify the proper parties that it was happening. It was irresponsible and unnecessary.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 11:48 am Well it doesn't help when you have a president saying things in press conferences that is contradictory to what the intelligence community and journalists/people on the ground are saying.

We'll see if it results in "so that they and the rest of congress can help". I doubt it.
Re: Afghanistan
Pretty telling that they both felt they needed to risk their lives go over there to figure out what was going on...and that they needed to keep it a secret from Pelosi and Biden. The fact it is a republican and a democrat leads me to believe our congressional members are very concerned about the amount of conflicting reports out there about what is actually going on vs what the president says is going on.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 1:47 pmTwo members of the House making a secret trip to Afghanistan doesn't help anything. Re: Afghanistan
whose approval do these people need before they could travel to the $#!thole? who?
Re: Afghanistan
Apparently nobody's since they got to somewhere that is nearly impossible to get in or out of at the moment. They certainly didn't just pack up the mini van and drive to the middle east.

Re: Afghanistan
the administration is pissed off because they don't want anybody to know what is really going on.
they are military vets. these two are true patriots for taking matters into their own hands.

nobody is denying the catastrophic events that have unfolded

Re: Afghanistan
Eh, what is going on is being shown on live TV. There aren't any questions as to what is happening.

Thank god you don't hold uncle joe to such a high standard. Otherwise his press conferences would drive you nuts.
Re: Afghanistan
Biden said the Taliban were letting people get to the airport. Reporters and sources on the ground say that's not the case. Instead they were beating people in the streets and going door to door making lists so they can come back and kill whoever we leave behind.

That's actually EXACTLY what you did in your post above claiming that them going there will do nothing, and that it was unnecessary, and that it was irresponsible.
Totally oblivious.
Re: Afghanistan
Given the circumstances hasn’t this actually been pretty tame? It’s not like we have a firefight on the streets or am I missing something? Sure, it’s a mess of an ordeal but most people seem to be getting out safely.

Re: Afghanistan
The White House has said it was irresponsible. The Speaker of the House said the same. The State Department said the same. The Defense Department said the same. Both the State Department and the Defense Department had issued statements asking members to not to go over there. I feel pretty confident that I am not stating that due simply to my own preconceived ideas.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 2:21 pmMind blown.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 2:14 pmEverything you just said was an assumption based on your own opinions.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 1:56 pm

Re: Afghanistan
The same people who think that 600,000 people dying from covid isn't a big deal also seem to feel that a handful of Afghani citizens dying because they helped us out over the course of the last 20 years should lead to our President being impeached or removed from office via the 25th Amendment.
And Illy is just wandering around looking for an opportunity to score a zinger on someone because that makes him feel good about himself.

A handful?
No big deal. Only a handful?
Willful ignorance.
