Vaccinate and isolate. Everything else is just kicking the can down the road imo.
Nobody is claiming "ever", that's just your rhetorical bullshit again, but assuming you leave that word out, that's exactly what the trials showed. So read those.
My entire point: we need a multi faceted attack. We can't just vaccinate and go back to normal life and think that is going to work. It is clearly not working. The virus is circulating at far too high of a level. The half assed approach isn't working.

The vaccine is amazingly effective at preventing hospitalizations and deaths. Yes - very very very much yes - if everyone was vaccinated, then there would not need to be material restrictions on going about our lives.

The latest data I saw with delta was 75%.

So, for every 4 unvaxxed people who got infected, you'd have 1 vaccinated person.

This was done with randomized testing, not based on symptoms.

And of course of those breakthrough cases, they're almost 90% less likely to require hospitalizations etc.

That's a big difference.

Seat belts don't save lives 100% of the time, but they're very good. Locking your car doors doesn't mean that you're car won't be broken into but it reduces the chances.

Tragic.

When asked about if they need field hospitals..."We have beds, we don't have available nurses"....TDub touched on this the other day. Going to lose a lot of nurses as more and more places implement vaccine mandates. I support the healthcare worker mandates, but there will be unintended consequences.

This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Especially if we just keep everything open like it is currently. We need another lockdown unfortunately.

“What we had hoped was that the vaccine would lower transmission,” he says. The delta variant seems to be making this task substantially more difficult. Researchers have found preliminary evidence that vaccinated people who catch this swiftly-replicating variant can accumulate similar levels of virus to unvaccinated people. Scientists have also grown live viruses from nasal swabs taken from vaccinated COVID-19 patients, and used it to infect and kill human cell cultures. This lends support to the idea that vaccinated people may still readily spread the virus if they become infected.

However, another recent report suggests that vaccinated people who catch COVID-19 are less infectious than the unvaccinated. Researchers found that viruses sampled from vaccinated people replicated less efficiently than viruses from unvaccinated people. The findings, which haven’t yet undergone peer review, could mean that people who develop breakthrough cases don’t “shed” as much virus as unvaccinated people who catch COVID-19...
Right, that initial report was based mostly on viral load, which was determined by PCR, and it was taken at one time point.

The thing about PCR is it tells you how many viruses are there. It doesn't tell you anything about their condition. Presumably if your immune system is winning (vaccinated), more of the viruses would be dying, but their DNA is still present and being counted.

I think the most likely thing is vaccinated people who have a breakthrough case (which is less common) are capable of infecting others, but I bet it's at a lower rate, and possibly for shorter period of time.

Agreed on the nurses, this is not the time to reduce staff, it will result in more overall deaths, especially in innocent bystanders like that guy.

and one of the reasons i posted that specific excerpt is that it highlights something i’ve been saying from the jump - one can’t (or shouldn’t) attempt to draw broad, sweeping conclusions based on a single study or set of results

each study has its own caveats, and unless you understand those intricacies, you’re bound to draw false (or at least misleading) conclusions

I get it. But at least expediting the process needs to happen. Lot of the requirements are on-the-job anyway, right? I think temporary relaxed requirements are already happening here--I know they are elsewhere.

COVID Vaccines Show No Signs of Harming Fertility or Sexual Function

The novel coronavirus, in contrast, can disrupt both things in unvaccinated men and women

https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... -function/
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its recommendations in early August, strengthening its advice that people who are pregnant or breastfeeding should be vaccinated against COVID-19.

The U.K.’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) found this month that “there is no pattern ... to suggest that any of the COVID-19 vaccines used in the UK increase the risk of congenital anomalies or birth complications. Pregnant women have reported similar suspected reactions to the vaccines as people who are not pregnant.”

If infected with the virus, pregnant people are at highly increased risk for severe disease and complications from COVID-19, compared with their same-age counterparts, says Tara Shirazian, an associate professor and a gynecologist at NYU Langone Health.

The immune system effects of pregnancy itself make an infection about five times more likely, says Jane Frederick, a reproductive endocrinology and fertility specialist and medical director of HRC Fertility in California. “You get infected more quickly, and pregnant women can go downhill fast,” she adds.

People should take the opportunity to get vaccinated before conceiving, but the vaccine is safe across all three trimesters of pregnancy, says Mary Rosser, director of integrated women’s health at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. In early August, 22 medical groups released a joint statement saying that “the best way for pregnant individuals to protect themselves against the potential harm from COVID-19 infection is to be vaccinated.”
