The less virus that spreads the less opportunities there are for novel variants.

Why is there not much support for lockdowns? I'd rather do something that makes a real difference than do the half assed thing we are doing now. It's clearly not effective enough. If we're going to do it half assed then we might as well just accept it will be a part of daily life and move on to focusing on treatments and making sure we have more capacity within the medical system.

That’s the answer to your question Illy. That’s the answer to everything these days, from milk crates to armed insurrection.

ICUs all full up in Utah

hope the freedumb caucus doesn’t have any life-threatening medical needs

i wonder if the story would be the same (healthcare professional burn-out) if the state hadn’t banned vax mandates

Why aren't the politicians in your state implementing a lockdown? 60.4 % of the people over 12 years of age in your state are fully vaccinated. And this is still occuring. That means that vaccinated or not, the people in your state are being irresponsible by not isolating/socially distancing. Vaccine mandates alone aren't fixing the issue in your state.

Seems more like people want someone to blame more than they actually want to stop this. We all have to make sacrifices whether we are vaccinated or not. In fact the vaccinated may have to make even more sacrifices since we are the ones who are most concerned.

the leader of this state, as well as a large portion of his supporters, would rather try to pray their way out of catastrophe

story on the radio over lunch was talking about notable reluctance in the LDS community

i mentioned this last year when it happened, but i went into a gas station down around Bears Ears last Labor Day that had signs up actually forbidding masks and gloves

freedumb is literal

5 Covid related questions and 5 moral of the stories for a Friday evening.....

1) Does anyone else wonder why the heck this country has less than 5% of the population currently hospitalized and yet ICUs are at full capacity in many places?
Moral of the story is..... Our hospital system is ill prepared for a major catastrophe.

2) Does anyone else know where they would go if their nearest hospital was full and couldn't treat them for Covid?
Moral of the story is..... It's not a bad idea to have a backup plan in place.

3) Does anyone else think about how easy it would be for "bio-terrorists" to destroy civilization?
Moral of the story is...... I feel it's inevitable that within the next 100 years there will be something "bio" related that wipes out 25% (or more) of the world population.

4) If you had to choose between getting Covid without knowing how sick you would be and the repercussions from having Covid or having a broken big toe that takes 6 weeks to heal to the point where it's feeling 80% - which would you choose?
Moral of the story is...... I feel too many people are willing to take their chances with Covid despite not knowing how it can/may/will affect them.

5) Do you feel Covid the worst thing to happen to this country in your lifetime?
Moral of the story is...... I don't know what the moral of this/that story is.

lockdowns are a temporary measure at best

we aren’t going to shutdown international travel and we aren't going to be able to get the whole world to shelter in place for 2-3 weeks, which imo is really what it would take (i said something similar more than year ago)

vaccination and social mitigation measures (not necessarily lockdowns) are the way out, as much as such a thing is even possible

It hasn't been the willingly vaccinated population that has protested the lockdowns over the last year and a half.

I agree with locking down again because the numbers are what they are, but it's just not happening.

Anybody else terrified there's a potential category 4 hurricane barreling down on the gulf and zero hospital beds available to treat anyone? Per reports, they're not even going to try to evacuate the covid ICU patients from New Orleans at this point...because where would they take them?

Answers to Gutter’s questions

1. What you are seeing is what everyone knows would happen when medical care and free market have a love child. Doesn’t end well for either. The pandemic is just the proverbial light switch which turns on the spotlight.

2. No. And hopefully I won’t have to find out the hard way. It’s that fingers-in-ears la-la-la denial which caused the predicament in question 1.

3. I’m sure some bad people have got some good ideas from our current situation. However, natural cycles have a way of introducing pandemics every few decades. Some are more serious than others but throughout history we’ve had pandemics. We learn from some and we often make new mistakes but also repeat many.

4. Toe. Known devil etc.

5. The aftermath of Reagan and Trump presidencies are comparable although Covid related disasters are an outcome of the latter.
5b. Ousie has a point also!

Bigger Covid spreaders?

Fleeing New Orleans residents

Or

Illegals crossing the border

???

Obviously, I’m just speaking to the ridiculousness of the latter. Hoping everyone fleeing LA is safe…

….and where are they fleeing to? Texas, Arkansas, Alabama? It’s quite safe there in terms of Covid!
