randylahey wrote: Mon Aug 30, 2021 5:13 pm Yes its documented that both covid cases and vaccinations tend to have good outcomes. And its documented that there can be bad outcomes to both too. You just made my argument for me. So why force people to inject one directly into their system under those circumstances? Let them choose
Because one has bad outcomes frequently and one almost never does.

You keep sighting 1% of people with covid die as the only number that matters.

Well, 1% is a lot lot lot more than 0.0000000001% which is about the likelihood of dying from the vaccine.

You're 10 orders of magnitude more likely to die from the virus than the vaccine. No one made your argument for you. You just don't understand numbers.

You should really just quit.

If the choice is between something that could kill you 1% of the time, and had no benefit, or something that could save your life, or someone else close to you and had a 0.0000000001% of killing you, the choice is pretty obvious. I mean, would you rather have a 1% chance at a free car or a 0.0000000001% chance...I'll let you choose.

But that's the point. Just because there is a choice it doesn't mean there isn't a correct choice. A toddler might prefer a nickel over a $100 bill because it's shiny, but given the choice the $100 is the better option.

I think part of the problem we are having now is that vaccinated people threw all caution to the wind after getting fully vaxxed.

We (the vaxxed) still need to stick to social distancing and common sense safety. That's just simply not happening for a large majority of the vaxxed. I was guilty of it too until recently. Now we are back to doing less than normal, but far from locked away in the house (like we all should be if we really wanted to create a meaningful immediate difference in the amount of virus circulating).

Really, I bet if we both went to our nearest grocery store and tested everyone who went, that people with masks who are social distancing are vaxxed at a much higher rate than those not wearing masks.

And you fail to recognize that nobody is choosing to get covid. A lot of people are exposed to it who don't contract it. The percent of people who a covid vaccine is going to save their life is less than 1 percent of the population. You don't force something on 100 percent of a population that only 1 percent actually need. You let them choose if they want the vax or not

Oh i totally agree....but i still think vaxxed people were too eager to fully get back to normal after getting vaccinated and we opened up/got too reckless.

Right now in the central IL hospital system (4 or 5 different hospitals) that i check daily stats for we have a similar amount vaccinated people hospitalized as we had total people hospitalized at the lower points of the pandemic before vaccines had been widely distributed and lockdowns were in full effect. Maybe that's anecdotal, but i think it would hold true for similar sized areas with similar vaccination rates. Obviously it's harder to compare periods of time because the variants are different.

20%ish of the people hospitalized in my area are vaccinated.

15%ish of the people in the ICU in my area are vaccinated.

10%ish of the people on ventilators in my area are vaccinated.

Vaccinated people are not being careful enough either. We ALL have to do our part. And some of us are more dependable to do our part than others.

Also that trend above shows that the vaccine prevents the more serious outcomes. As the condition gets worse the % vaccinated in the category gets lower. I wanted to show that.

A lot of people got the vax just so they could live a normal life guilt free. That was the initial promise of the vaccine. Was to get back to normal. And people were doing it to cover their ass from cancel culture and the damn left

Again death isn't the only negative result of this virus. Stop ignoring data to push a political agenda.

It was my Dumbfuck in Charge thread.

Of course, we are chock full of dumbfucks and serial arguers...so this one should be a hall of famer.

Do the hospitals in your areas share hospitalized stats broken down by vaccinated vs unvaccinated?

20% of the hospitalized in my area are vaccinated. Those of us vaccinated need to continue to be cautious when we are out and about.
