we have not had a terrorist attack on American soil since 9-11. i will celebrate that. that is remarkable.
Is that why I can’t carry a full bottle of water through a TSA checkpoint?
Pray tell what you would call the Proud Boys and what they have wrought. What would you call someone driving a vehicle into people protesting White Supremacy?
I suppose it’s not called terrorism when white people do it.
someone who has tried so hard to convince everyone he’s not on a side sure is showing his true colors
LOL
I was just as critical and against Trump.
It's some of you guys who switched it up, just like some of us around here said you would despite your claims to the contrary.
I voted for Biden. Glad he won. But he's doing a below average job, as evidenced by his piss poor approval ratings recently.
nobody switched it up, dumbass
we all said this was a clusterfuck
you win, run your victory lap and revel in it
We just haven't lost our shit enough to satisfy Illy. He's like the guy that only shows up to a game thread after a KU loss just to throw shit in people's faces about overly emotional posts they make.

The only plus is that it will make it a lot easier for other Dems to run against him. Frankly, I hope he doesn't even pursue a second term.
That we can agree on.
I still don't think he was the correct choice last time by the Dems, but I understand why he seemed like the safest pick of the bunch since it was more about beating Trump and less about picking the best of the Dem bunch.
There are at least 2 or 3 Dems who I really like and think they'd do a great job. Just hope the can build enough momentum to be viewed as viable so less people think we need someone like Biden (since it may very well be a Trump on the other side of the ticket ).
despite the current crisis, i still think he is the right guy for the job, right now
he wasn’t my first choice, nor second, but he likely is still the best option for following the previous administration
his polling numbers are a knee-jerk reaction to Afghanistan, as would be expected. objectively, he’s already accomplished a bunch...some initiatives with more substance than others obviously
the infrastructure legislation alone is a monumental success...i’d argue even more so than trump’s main accomplishment with the criminal justice “reform”
one thing i give trump credit for, whether he actually practiced it or not, us keeping our military plans closer to the vest. i’ve never understood why we announce our intentions ahead of time so that the whole world knows what we’re going to do. i’d there anything more arrogant? i wonder how things might have gone in Afghanistan if we’d just started moving “out people” out without any formal announcement of our intentions...

there is no way you could evacuate that amount of people and supplies without it being known. In this day and age, if you don't announce it then it looks like you are hiding something.

In general, more information is better at avoiding chaos than less. Pretty sure the Taliban would notice the lined up queue of transport planes approaching the airfield. Their attacks havent exactly needed months of prep. The Biden admins and whoever they used on the ground to coordinate everything just needed to do a better job of getting the people they wanted to evacuate notified and the roads into the airport better secured.

Not shutting down the alternate airbase and having 2 viable exit locations wouldve helped.

If they had the person power to staff said airport.

What? We had one at Bagram for 20 years. We turned left off the lights and left it in the middle of the night.
Instead of 2 options we left ourselves only 1 out and told everyone we were putting all our people in one place at one time.

I know that exists and I know that we left it. My point was that it would take another large deployment of US soldiers to staff and secure that additional air base for two more months. We didn't seem to have enough boots on the ground to adequately staff and secure one airport, let alone two.

It was staffed and operational 7 weeks ago.
Generally its not good to be the fish in the barrel
Why would we need a deployment of troops to keep an airbase operational that was already operational? Delayed pullback od troops at that airbase? Yes. Additional deployment? No

Head in sand.
Troops on the ground, intelligence experts, etc. have said they pleaded with the administration to do just that. AND to start this process many months ago regardless of how the Afghan military/govt felt about the optics. Instead we worried about the optics.
Not to mention we had to redeploy troops anyway once the fucking disaster started a few weeks ago because the planning was terrible/non existent...so there's that.

Wasn't the Afghan Army running the base when we left? Based on their performance in keeping their country secure, I doubt we would have been wise to count on them.
