Good commentary, thanks.

And while the rapist itself might be too attenuated, it does seem like this law could be used against itself somehow.

At the very least just wait til like, some preacher uses the church van to take his congregant mistress to the doctor…

Probably the best way to attack the law is to basically either use it to go after GOP lawmakers (i.e. if their kids have friends who need abortions, or even suspected of needing abortions, sue the kids) OR just clog up the courts so much that it makes this law impossible to actually litigate. I.e. have a legit abortion need go get a Texas abortion, but do it in the most absurd way. Have the woman go to the mall to get shoes, then go get a skirt, go to CVS to get pain pills, then go to Hertz to rent a car, then go to Austin and wait for GOP lawmaker to open the door for her, then have a GOP lawmaker help her carry her bags, then ask a GOP lawmaker to borrow a dollar to get some water, etc., then go get the abortion. Then sue EVERYONE. The mall, the shoe manufacture, all the law makers encountered, everyone that gave the right of way on the road. Make it untenable to enforce this law.

More good commentary. High in the running for potd.

Also worth mentioning, and doing so here instead of digging up the gun thread, is that a permitless carry law goes into effect in TX today too

If someone made Kavanaugh testify under oath and asked him how many women he impregnated in HS and College who had abortions, what do you think his answer would be?

Nonzero chance it’s not zero.

But you might have to use a little reverse psychology on that bro

Like, “is it true that chicks in college didn’t think you were cool or popular enough to let you raw dog it?”

Just get rid of Roe v Wade already and remove it as a campaign issue for the Republicans. Then White Supremacy will be their only issue.

States can do their thing. Within a generation this act will do to the Red States what Prop 187 did to California - essentially make Republicans irrelevant.

Or one can hope

Welp, nothing matters anymore. I’m sure this will be copy and pasted in every red state tomorrow. Super fucked. Packing the courts only option now

And, this path is just a means to one end (abortion). No reason it can’t be enacted for others (voting rights, who knows what).

Among a lot of dark days, this one stands out. And yes, should serve as a call for the Democrats to WAKE THE FUCK UP and stop assuming there is any honor or good faith on the other side, at least as to its elected representatives.

Basically all constitution protections are over. Conservatives are trying to stop butt stuff with gays. Liberals are figuring out how to ban guns. I’m trying to figure out bumper crop schedules next year because fuck this shit

My wife is Republican. (she voted for Biden)

That said, this particular law may push her over the edge in her political affiliation.

We’ve had our fair share of pregnancy issues prior to having our 2 boys. This shit hits home with her. Hard.

Your vote matters. Remember that. Always.

I can’t help but think that this sort of thing driving liberals away from/to stop moving to Texas is very very very much a feature of the law, not a bug.

Screw a GoFundMe, I will personally pay out of pocket for her tombstone to have a solar-powered iPad embedded in it, that plays this on loop until the skies darken permanently.

I have very mixed feelings on abortion but one thing I am a firm believer of is that I feel it's a very dangerous slope to go down when we have such varying laws on abortion in different states.

Here is a crazy thought, I predict within the next 50-100 years Texas (and Florida, and a few other states) will not be a part of the USA anymore. They will declare their Independence or the USA will say fuck 'em and kick them out. Either way, if so, I say good!
