Kansas Football 2021 Season
Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
Newton's prediction was actually pretty good. Very close to having 14 more points. We have one advantage: other teams have already circled the day as a win. Leipold is a fiery dude and very competitive. A lot of the Donut monster in him.

Think O/U is 51. So like 39-12…
Whiteout for Coastal team and fans. First home game against P5.
It might get ugly. But a game too where Bean will just have to make plays.

Sad that Kansas has brought that program to life. Would like to have them return the favor.

IF KU can at least sustain drives and chew clock this game won't be a blow out. If KU goes three and out or even worse turnovers the ball over KU is going to get boat raced. Keep it close. Hope for the best.

I did one a while back. But want to rock an official prediction for every game.
South Dakota W 31-13 - Duh
@ Coastal L 45-20 - They're good. For the 3rd year in a row.
Baylor L 31-17 - Closest game against Baylor in a while. But they're pretty deep.
@ Duke W 21-17 - I think Duke is just a tad better than KU. New staff, new optimism.
@ Iowa State L 44-14 - They're going to be top 10 all year.
Texas Tech L 27-20
Oklahoma L 55-20
Okie State L 48-21
kstate L 30-20
@ Texas L 37-24
@ TCU L 40-13
West Va L 27-17
2-10
Closer games against kstate, Tech and West Va. The rest will be kind of blah games.
But think progress is what fans are looking for.
Coastal - Is KU > The Citadel? I say yes. Is KU 39 points better than The Citadel? I say no.
I predict CC 31 KU 20
Baylor - BU 31 KU 20
Dook - KU 31 Dook 20
ISU - ISU 31 KU 20
TTU - KU 31 TTU 20
OU - OU 31 KU 20
OKST - OKST 31 KU 20
KST - KU 31 KSU 20
UT - UT 31 KU 20
TCU - KU 31 TCU 20
WVU - WVU 31 KU 20
5-7 Duke's Mayo Bowl or bust!
I like Mayo. People around here are nuts for Duke's brand. I think Hellmann's is better.
Defense. Rebounds.
Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
Coastal had 600 plus yards in their last game. We had around 250.
Our defense won us the SD game.
I dont think they can hold a team like Coastal that long.
24-7 at half.
45-17 final.

Duke looks winnable and a P5 win would be a nice boost for optics.

Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
It's kind of ironic. Buffalo is playing Coastal the week after KU does. So Leipold and staff spent their offseason/spring scouting Coastal. Don't know if it'll help. Coastal is efficient as shit. Scored on their first 7 possessions. If KU has any chance, they have to sustain drives and score or pin Coastal really deep.
I feel like 27 points is very high. Coastal will have a ton of pressure on them. Another weird thing, saw something to where they have A TON of tickets available for purchase. I mean, entire sections. So strange.

I think something like 38-14 sounds believable.
Don't know much about Coastal, but feel we are in a better spot in this game compared to last year's opener.

Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
Well and remember last year. I think Coastal got the ball twice on KUs first 2 possessions because a WR tipped a ball in the air that was picked, deep into Coastal territory and then on next possession a WR was pushed into another WR on a screen and that WR fumbled.
And even after those 2 turnovers, and another INT later, KU was down just 28-17 in the 3rd quarter. Coastal didn't have any turnovers.
If KU repeats the same type of game on Friday, no TOs, no extremely dumb penalties and ball control offense, you have a chance. Still slim, but a chance.
KU forced 3 South Dakota fumbles Friday. Didn't recover any, but law of averages say if that happens again, you will get one or two.

Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
KU, still has a chance on Friday for all of the reasons you stated, Newton. A lot, and I mean a lot of things will have to go right for that to happen but it isn't out of the realm to believe it can't. Last year, KU all but gave CC the game and you hope this year that isn't the case.
Another week to get familiar with Leipold's scheme, eliminate the dumb penalties and don't turn the ball over this game should be at least competitive.

Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
Leipold is about .500 on the road during his time at Buffalo. And about 3 of those road losses were to B1G teams early in the year.
That'll be something to monitor. Gill was overwhelmed in his first road game at Southern Miss. Weis & Co were up 23-13 in his first road game at Northern Illinois. Lost 30-23. Beaty lost by 13 at Rutgers in his first road game. Les destroyed Boston College in his first road game.
I just hope Leipold has Kansas ready to go out of the gate. Even in that Boston College win, fell behind 17-7 in the 1st quarter. Can't have that.

No data to back this up, but I have always felt that weekday night games favor the home team another point or two.

Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
Plus. They played Thursday night. So an extra day of rest and prep.
If I’m KU, I consider flying out tomorrow after practice. Practice in South Carolina on Thursday.

Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
Regardless of the talent/ranking situation and the state of both programs, I always thought it was cool when a Power 5 school like KU has the balls to play a game AT a smaller school like Coastal Carolina (goes for football & basketball).
Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
I agree. The downside is there is no upside to playing the smaller schools when they are good save for altruism. You lose and it helps them recruit and hurts your team. Hard enough as is
Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
I think CC is a good team. I hope that Newton is right that some of the loose balls bounce to KU this time. But I think CC will win. It will suck to lose to them but we did that twice at KU so losing to them at their home when they have even more experience together as a team will not be a shock. Hopefully, KU can run the ball better and control the clock to to try to keep the score closer. Moral victories aren't good but we all knew that is part of the process. KU can't go from 0-12 to 12-0 or even 6-6 without some moral victories.
Re: Kansas Football 2021 Season
KU's run game vs South Dakota doesn't make me feel optimistic that they can chew clock.holidaysmore wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 6:28 pm IF KU can at least sustain drives and chew clock this game won't be a blow out.
