I predict either Ford or Volkswagen Auto Group will have the lions share of EV sales within 5 years.

I feel like some car nerd buddy of mine who was otherwise a Tesla fanboy said they’re actually not great cars, as far as features and functions and QC goes, especially for the price point

How long does it take to charge an EV? I can't see doing a cross country road trip in one if you have to spend hours at the "pump" to recharge.

i’ve been saying this for a while. not only is the front end of production problematic environmentally (not that china cares), but there is a huge end-of-life issue as well. though, i did see that some of these old ev batteries are being repurposed for the nomad movement (tiny houses, vans, RVs, campers)

but, gotta start somewhere

depends on the voltage you’re pushing, among other things

59h at 110v...to just over an hour at 440v

edit: that’s for a kia, but is probably in the ballpark

Drove a Volvo Polestar a few weeks ago. Light years ahead of the 2 Teslas I have driven, particularly in fit and finish.

i don’t think it’s as easy as that...too much nuance in the impacts associated with each to being directly compared

i think we know what impacts are from internal combustion, but the first lithium batteries are only like 40 years old now. relatively few have actually reached the end of their usable life. for those that have, only 5-10% of the battery is recyclable (vs something like 99% of old-school lead-acid car batteries)

i think the recyclability will improve as demand increases

I think I've said this before, my interest is much more related to a cost-saving standpoint than environmental.

Not that I'm gonna go start a forest fire or anything, though.

They have a really good infotainment setup. They feel nice. I'm not a huge fan, though, and tend to prefer the European and Asian luxury lines.

Weird quirk, though, the ones in built in California have shitty paint because of regulations.
