Da Weed Thread
Re: Da Weed Thread
I dont care about her coping with grief. I dont care that she smoked weed. I dont about any of that and i understand it. But the choices and consequences are laid out and the path we take is ours. No big deal, but im not going to feel bad that she got a ban either. Its pretty clear cut until the rules are changed. This isnt rocket science.

I don't think she did anything wrong morally.ousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:14 am It’s not that I disagree with that.
It’s that loosing one’s mother might be among the few times for which the weight of that situation might be heavier than the even the Olympics - or perhaps more simply, just the threat of whether you’ll be tested.
Do you fault her for trying to cope with her grief? Cuz I guess I don’t.
Do you think she did it to try and gain some otherwise impermissible competitive advantage? I guess I don’t either.
But if we really wanna put all our chips down for this one, let’s test the Olympic administrators too, and see how much they actually care about The Rules.
I also don't think they're doing anything wrong by enforcing the rules she knew about when she decided to break them.
Do i think weed is a performance enhancer? Definitely not for a track athlete. But rules are rules.
Re: Da Weed Thread
Yeah. Like I said, this isn’t Nam.
But do you think her team reacted appropriately? They cut off their nose to spite their face and snubbed their best performer even after her punishment would have been served. I think it speaks to just how stuffy the Olympics still is.
Btw weed is prohibited in pretty much every competitive sport ever, so if you guys are really worried less about whether they smoke weed and more about the sanctity of The Rules, I’d stop watching college and nba ball right quick, among others.

If they get caught and get suspensions my reaction is the same.ousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:22 am Yeah. Like I said, this isn’t Nam.

Re: Da Weed Thread
Difference is olympics is 4 years and the window is short for a sprinter. Basketball player misses a couple games....then theyre right back. Miss the Olympics that might be your only shot.

Re: Da Weed Thread
Well, go back to the Darnell analogy.
He broke The Rules. He served his time.
Are you upset KU didn’t add to the suspension?

Re: Da Weed Thread
was it her team, or the US Track and Field admins that made the call? i doubt her relay team (assuming that’s who you were referencing) made the callousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:22 am Yeah. Like I said, this isn’t Nam.

Re: Da Weed Thread
That’s a good question. Trying to confirm who exactly chose not to select her.
I think it’s cuz the positive weed test invalidates her qualifying times or whatever. Lol

Re: Da Weed Thread
I guess the issue I’m trying to discuss is, whether it was appropriate to deny her the chance to compete even after her suspension had been served.
You mention a “couple games” for a basketball player’s punishment for weed, and that a runner may have an even shorter career window.
Do you think the 30 day suspension and the subsequent missing out on competition after time served is appropriate? At what point could The Rules go too far?

Re: Da Weed Thread
I get what you are saying, that its lol that weed would help her times, but she broke the rules. Not smoking weed for a period of time shouldn't be difficult.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in the ladies restroom with hawklin.

Re: Da Weed Thread
It really doesn't matter what I think the rules should be. Its been established what they are....play by them and compete or don't and don't. If theu change later on then you can revaluate your choices to remain in compliance.ousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 12:40 pm I guess the issue I’m trying to discuss is, whether it was appropriate to deny her the chance to compete even after her suspension had been served.

though, what’d they expect when they allowed edibles with the shape and look of regular candy?
