Da Weed Thread
Re: Da Weed Thread
Also, pre order online if they have it. Pretty sure it is not like Amsterdam where they have items sitting out in display cases. It's all on ipads. At least that's how it goes in the IL dispenseraries i have been in.
I have heard Cali and some CO stores have display cases where you can actually see it, but so far IL doesn't do that anywhere I have been. Not sure about Michigan but i assume it's more similar to IL than it is to Cali.
Also, it's expensive. Insanely. The midwest states haven't caught up to Cali or Co on the production side of things so prices are still high. My buddy just left Cali and said it was insane how much cheaper it was.

Apparently recreational now too, at least according to my brother
Worst case I’ll just call my stoner cousin
he’s always had the hookup, even if it’s prone to being some Midwestern beasties

Re: Da Weed Thread
Speaking of beasties, I was visiting a horticulturist friend last week and he asked me if I noticed his new vegetation--a 6' tall plant with a dozen bottle brushes the size of my forearm (a legit cubit).
Re: Da Weed Thread
They absolutely have them for rec usage. Had a dispensary right next to the place I stayed in Douglas Michigan a few weeks agoBasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 12:02 pmDo they sell recreational Marijuana in Michigan?
I was thinking it was legal there, but no dispenseraries for recreational use, only medical use?

Medical in Missouri is so expensive that it's not even worth going to the trouble of getting a card.
When does that part calm down? (MMJ been here about a year)

misery also doesn’t recognize many, if any, out-of-state medical cards

last i checked, there were 9 states (plus DC) that recognize out-of-staters
out of 35 states with legal medical, i guess it depends on your definition of typical but you’re probably right

Interesting. Issue I would guess is that it is still a controlled substance at the FDA level, so states have to deal with that red tape.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:42 pmtypical for misery?CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:39 pmI would guess that's typical, but IDK.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:37 pm misery also doesn’t recognize many, if any, out-of-state medical cards

And then those 9 states not receiving the inflated sales tax from out-of-state cardholders is also interesting.

1. Zero advantage of pre-ordering unless you are in a hurry. Even then, I have found most places still make you wait in line to pick up when you get there.
2. I have been to multiple places in Chicago (obviously Illinois) that have weed in "display cases".
3. Yes, RECREATIONAL tends to be insanely expensive in Illinois when you include the taxes. Not sure what affect production (and lack of production) has on prices but I assume it has some.
4. I just left California and it was NOT "insane" how much cheaper weed is. In fact, I paid more for some 1/8ths in California than I pay for comparable 1/8ths in Illinois. Yes, I could have bought cheaper 1/8ths in California but I figure why buy shit when you can buy quality? Unless you're basically broke.
FYI, granted this is from March but it helps explain things. As completed as they are.
Marijuana tax rates in California
Adult use retail sales: California has a statewide 15% cannabis excise tax, as well as a state retail sales tax of 7.25%, and an automatic local sales tax of up to 1%. Local municipalities may, at their discretion, tack on an additional businesses tax of up to 15%. So a customer may pay anywhere from 23% to 38% in tax.
Marijuana tax rates in Illinois
Adult-use retail: Cannabis tax rates in Illinois are complex and mostly based on THC content. Generally, the higher the THC concentration, the higher the tax rate.
Infused food and beverages come with a 20% marijuana excise tax.
All other cannabis products containing 35% THC or less are subject to a 10% excise tax.
All other cannabis products containing more than 35% THC are subject to a 25% excise tax.
On top of that there’s a 6.25% statewide retail sales tax, and potentially other local municipal taxes (which may run up to 3%).
So, rough total out the door, expect your cannabis leaf to be taxed at 16%, edibles at 26%, and concentrates at 31%.

2. I have been 2 none. In fact i didn't think it was allowed. But apparently i was wrong or maybe it is based on who owns the store.
3. Not sure if this holds true in Chi area, but in the 4 central IL stores i have been in (2 springfield, 1 Champaign, 1 Canton) i have noticed that nearly all (maybe all) weed being sold is also being grown in IL. In the beginning, and i am sure Chicago was different due to market size, stores were having trouble keeping things in stock. Flower would be sold out for days at a time. That is not the case anymore from what i am seeing.
4. He was in San Diego. Not sure if that matters. And maybe he just didn't pay attention to how good quality was and that is what caused the difference in price? But he said he thought it was 15%+ more for the quarter he bought. He's also notoriously full of shit, so there's that.

and it’s by the dispensary, not “door dash”

1. True. But.... I have actually been in a store (Veralife and SunnySide) where people picking up orders waited a longer period of time (LOOONG pick up line) than people who walked in and bought from a "salesperson".BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 4:13 pm1. 2. Unless I was hallucinating and/or I am completely braindead, I'm not sure about now but I am 99.9999% sure some places in Illinois had weed on display.
3. Yes, I believe (but am not 100% sure) all weed sold in Illinois is/was grown in Illinois and yes, from what I heard and read - it sold out super fast when weed was first legalized (and sold in stores) for recreational use.
4. I have no doubt your buddy found (and bought) cheaper weed in California. Heck there was a place called Serra that had 1/8ths "on sale" for I think he told me $20. My guess is that stuff got you high too.
I'm just saying, I paid basically what I thought were the same prices in LA County that I have paid in Illinois for similar product. As you are well aware, taxes are the killer. I have to assume there is a huge cost advantage to have a medicinal card.
On a different note... I think I mentioned edibles at the Dead & Company shows over the weekend. I am still thinking to myself who the fuck in their right mind would buy an "edible" Rice Krispie Treat from a complete stranger who looks like they are a meth head?
Obvious answer is someone who doesn't give a fuck and yes, I am well aware that at most Dead shows there are a shit ton of people who buy LSD from strangers and happily take it.
God bless Jerry and birthday cakes!
Re: Da Weed Thread
medicinal is a bit under what would be considered “normal” black market prices ($50-60/eighth)...but it varies depending on stock and potential deals
interestingly, there are better deals if you go into the dispensary than if you order online

Re: Da Weed Thread
Here it is the exact opposite it sounds like. Ordering online it is easy to spot deals and using frequent customer points logging in on their website i typically get a "pre roll" for free with each purchase (which can be a 3 pre roll pack of .5s if they're in stock which is a freaking good deal imo). The first thing they ask after scanning my ID when i walk in is "did you have an online order". I then give my name, they find the order, and then let me thru the 2nd door to the floor of the dispensary. I am usually in and out in 5min because they have my order ready and bagged once i check in.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 5:20 pm medicinal is a bit under what would be considered “normal” black market prices ($50-60/eighth)...but it varies depending on stock and potential deals
