Poison Ivy
Re: Poison Ivy
haha...it’s fine
to each their own. for me, if the desired result can be accomplished with less-toxic means then i’m all for it
that said, i know there are some things where you’ve just gotta bite the bullet. case in point, preventing invasive cedars in pasture-land. you could spend crazy time and effort digging them up, or you could just use a minimal amount of Tordon on the freshly cut stumps
my pops worked in forestry and is formally educated in natural resource use and management, so thoughtful use of such products has been engrained in me

I'm not huge on chemicals...
but CY-Kick is the best thing ever for keeping spiders out. spray your foundation twice a year. keep the dogs and kids out of there for 24 hours or so though.

we’ve got a widow living in our stove top

Re: Poison Ivy
Bees freak me out. Spiders not so much. We had a black widow living in the garage for a while. I did a little research and read that they are not aggressive and won't bite unless provoked. Even then, they may not inject venom. I did not test this theory.

Re: Poison Ivy
im the opposite. yellowjackets usually leave me alone. I'm calm around them and they usually just do their thing and leave me in peace. I accidentally grabbed this one as I put my hand up on a rail.
widows....I won't leave one alive if I can help it If I see it...I won't stop looking until its dead

Re: Poison Ivy
I don't miss poisonous snakes and spiders.
Re: Poison Ivy
so, you understand the benefit of snakes, but not spiders?
i don’t blame you for dealing with ones in the house, particularly with kiddos
but, you’re fooling yourself if you think you’re making any difference at all by killing those outside
Re: Poison Ivy
When I was down at my buddies lake house at Bull Shoals three weekends ago, he found a tarantula in his shed. Big fvcker. He relocated it outside in the woods. He also gets small scorpions in his house and has bait traps. I had no idea scorpions lived in Missouri. I got bit by several small bugs while sleeping, probably spiders and they itch for days on end. I generally hate all bugs because they all seem to want to bite me.
Re: Poison Ivy
If it were up to me, I'd leave spiders ( sans Widows or Recluses if I lived in an area with em ) in the house alone. Get rid of the bugs that will actually bite me.
Re: Poison Ivy
Bugs have been bad this year in KC. I keep finding little spiders and I'm pretty sure they bite me when I sleep because most of the time I wake up and find a small welt on my ass. Like WTF. I sleep in boxers and and still get bit. I wash my sheets every week, but now I've been throwing my comforter and pillows in the dryer on high heat for 30 minutes to hopefully kill them. And vacuuming under my bed more often.
