It's not perfect therefore it doesn't work.

We don't hold ANYTHING else to that standard.

"Vaccine reduces your chances of getting the virus, reduces your chances of getting severely sick, and reduces your chances of dying". BUT there are breakthrough cases so it doesn't work

"Masks reduce your chance of getting covid and reduce your chances of spreading it if you have it unknowingly" BUT it's not perfect so why bother.

It's the dumbest shit I ever heard of.

I lock my doors when I'm gone to prevent people from entering my home or taking my possessions, it isn't perfect, but fairly effective. I drive with headlights on at night, I can't see as much as I can during the day, that doesn't mean they don't work, I can see a lot more with them on than I can with them off. I wash my hands after I shit and also before I eat, it helps prevent the spread of illness, it doesn't eliminate all intestinal pathogens, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. I clean my house in part to prevent insects from coming inside, I occasionally see an insect inside, it doesn't mean that I should let food rot on my counter.
It's just another straw man. "Aha! We got you because masks aren't 100% effective against COVID like you said they would be. You're full of shit and everything is now invalid."

Seat belts don't prevent 100% of car wreck fatalities. Therefore, the existence of car wreck fatalities is being overblown. They don't exist.

randylahey wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 12:57 pm Masks are far from perfect. If any of you ever do anything in the real world you'll notice most people don't see any reason to wear them. The politicians that make the mandates don't even wear them

And they take away human normalcy. People need to be able to see each others faces to speak and interact. Its how children learn language how to function how to communicate. They aren't that effective and that necessary. If people want to wear one that fine. Same if people don't. Not necessary
I don't require a perfect solution. Just something that can be done during the course of my normal day that also helps reduce the odds. It's not an All or Nothing scenario. I can speak to people normally wearing a mask just fine but if the environment allows for us to spread out and interact safely, we will make adjustments and take off our masks. It just depends.

My kid wears a mask at school the vast majority of the day and she isn't having any developmental issue with her speech. Shit, she won't shut up no matter how much I ask her to and has the vocabulary of kids several years older than her (the luxury of having a sibling 10 years older).

Ironic that the people asking for more common sense to be utilized have the least amount of common sense in their arguments.

So are you guys just going to wear masks the rest of your lives then or what is your plan?

Respiratory illnesses will always exist and people will always continue to die from them

Straw man after straw man.

But I'll play your game and say again that I'm completely on board with universal mask wearing during flu season.

Saw a moron FB friend post a Fox News graphic from 2 weeks ago showing 300 kids shot in Chicago vs 200 dead of Covid USA-wide. Of course that’s outdated already because child Covid deaths are over 400… but the point being, isn’t it 500 too many, regardless? I want to slap some people up beside the head.

My son wore a mask to preschool last year. First winter nobody in our family got the flu.

Universal mask wearing every flu season? Never going to happen. You guys stray farther and farther from reality

Flu is typically like a once every decade or 2 type thing. I beleive ive only had it once in 30 years. If you're getting it yearly there is something wrong

I certainly never stated that it was going to happen in the US.

Although, it does happen elsewhere.

I didn't wear a mask at all from May to July, I wear it when appropriate right now. The numbers are going down currently, if they contintue to drop, I'll wear a mask less and less.

Why not have the flexibility to adjust to a situation? What's hard about that.

Do people have a nice spring day and then throw away all their coats and winter clothes assuming it's never going to happen again? No, that's dumb.

Does wearing a coat on a cold day mean you have to always wear a coat every day forever? No, that's dumb.

And doctors were appearing in cigarette ads. So ‘reality’ is quite relative. We can look at what we call societal norms during each 20 year period and and identify things we thought were “never going to happen”.

We could attack a straw man, or we could look to the data.
