He's a mega-sized Marcus Garrett. And it's just god damn hard to build a winning roster where the lead ballhandler has that kind of limitation!CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 9:33 am The praise for the Sixers and Celtics outsmarting the rest of the league has sure died down.
It was bad enough that Simmons looks useless to win big playoff games, and now you add on that he's on a trend to becoming a locker room cancer.
If he were a superstar, teams would be lining up for them. They're not. He's facing an unfulfilling good-regular-season-stat-player-on-bad-teams career.

Can't deny Ben's defense is really great and has great size. He's a useful player, but the Dubs didn't win all those titles with utility Draymond being their 2nd guy.

Right - a mega-sized Marcus Garrett can do some really really cool things!CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 10:14 amThat's pretty apt.jfish26 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 10:10 amHe's a mega-sized Marcus Garrett. BUT. It's just an enormous drag on your ceiling as a team.
Re: Joel Embiid
Draymond is an interesting comparison.
Without knowing Draymond’s contracts, dunno if he ever got Ben kinda money either

Re: Joel Embiid
And even Draymond, at the height of his powers, was a >30% 3pt shooter (on 3-4 attempts/game).
Makes an enormous difference.

Re: Joel Embiid
Mega Marcus Garrett is a fun comparison too, with the wildest part being, Garrett might be a considerably better shooter
Re: Joel Embiid
He and kyrie (and wiggins to a lesser extent) are now almost untouchable in trade scenarios.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 9:33 am The praise for the Sixers and Celtics outsmarting the rest of the league has sure died down.

Re: Joel Embiid
Well yeah.
But that’s the thing!
He’s a 2-way contract guy who may never play a single NBA possession, in large part cuz his knock is bad shooting
Yet still better shooting than the max contract all star we’re comparing him to

Re: Joel Embiid
The whole "max contract, build around him" thing with Simmons is he was supposed to get better.
Instead, he stagnated physically and revealed himself to be really weak, mentally.
Re: Joel Embiid
bro you were the one who had to point out he was considerably worse at everything else

Re: Joel Embiid
feels like the extra draft picks should be going the other way at this point. 76ers almost need to sweeten the pot to get rid of him, if they want a decent player in return
Re: Joel Embiid
Ya. The 76ers are in major denial about his trade value.randylahey wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 6:03 pmfeels like the extra draft picks should be going the other way at this point. 76ers almost need to sweeten the pot to get rid of him, if they want a decent player in return
Re: Joel Embiid
Lot of Marcus Garrett smack talk on here. Garrett was pretty good at the stripe and mid-range game. Simmons turned down dunks at the end last year. I agree that the 6ers probably need to aggressively add a few picks to get rid of Simmons.

Re: Joel Embiid
I dont think 8 have ever seen a players name/value deteriorate over night the way Simmons has
#1 overall pick max contract franchise guy to a guy that can't be traded

Re: stagnated physically, perhaps.
Re: revealing himself to being weak mentally, that was already suggested by the fact a dude making his kind of money to play basketball never got around sooner to developing a shot.

Re: Joel Embiid
Time to be realistic and do what's best for the team....which is build around simmons and embiid (or at least pretend to).
