Re: Weather
Plano will be ok. It was 80 by noon.
Great day on the water, headed back right now.
I haven't been to Lake Mead in many years, doesn't even look like the same lake.

Yep, 62 and super windy today. High is supposed to be 72.
Wetsuits and shorter runs leads to being in the warmth of the bar by noon!

Didn't they get a ton of rain over the weekend?Overlander wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:50 amPlano will be ok. It was 80 by noon.

Re: Weather
we’ve gotten some decent rain, but the snow line stopped right at the top bench...it’s quite the aesthetic

Read this on yahoo news:
"Nevada's Lake Mead is a major water source for California, and Bill Patzert, a retired climate scientist with NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, told the Los Angeles Times that he estimates it would take 17 years of above-normal rainfall and snowpack to bring the depleted lake back to where it should be. "There's no quick fix to the drought," Patzert said."

Re: Weather
Had a few snow storms so far this year but last night was the first night it was real cold. Like already single digits by the time I went to bed.
Also the first morning the pasture ponds were completely frozen. Stayed that way all day too.

Re: Weather
Mrs 99 worked last night, she will work again tonight.
After going to bed, she popped out and said, "I'm turning on the AC, touch it and die."

Re: Weather
Been unseasonably nice here. Sunny and 50s. We’re behind on snow once again. After an initial bum rush to start the season, ski resorts are hurting. Downhill resorts only have a small fraction of trails open and lifts spinning, and Nordic centers haven’t even opened yet.
I can’t help but wonder what extended droughts (not to mention threat of wildfires) will do to the otherwise insane housing markets in ski towns in the mid-long run, not to mention this winter or sooner.
(There’s also the increasingly vocal concern of ski resorts being bought up by corporate overlords who are overselling lift tickets and understaffing lifts while doing nothing to address the greater strains on local infrastructures they’re creating with it, but that’s for another thread)
(Also the mass resignations that have come from resort vaccine mandates, but that’s for another thread yet)

Re: Weather
if utah and the wasatch front are any indication, drought (even long-term) won’t dissuade many from relocating unfortunately
utah is the second driest state behind nevada (and only getting drier as of late), but has the fastest growing population in the country

Re: Weather
Well, it’s hard to tell what long term will really look like until we get there.
If annual snowfall averages go from like 300+ inches a year to under 100, it’s more likely to rain than snow over spring break in March, and resorts are only open for half as many days with half the usual terrain available, those slopeside condos might not look like 7-figure assets after all.
Or shit, if a wildfire rips through a ski resort, what then?

Re: Weather
the long-term precipitation forecast doesn’t bode well, presuming you put much stock in those sorts of things
here, the corridor between Park City and Heber City is exploding with development…at the same time, the levels of the adjacent reservoirs, namely Jordanelle, just keep falling the way Meade and Powell have been
eventually, one would think, something will give. i’ve just not seen any evidence of slowing growth outside of a few small, rural towns temporarily halting all construction last summer due to water shortages

Re: Weather
colorado looks to fare better than utah as far as precipitation is concerned…but the question remains whether that’ll come in the form of snow or rain
Re: Weather
finally getting our first snow of the year…might get upwards of 10” at our place, but i’m not holding my breath
