Facebook, Google, et al
Re: Facebook, Google, et al
Hey, the rhetorical question worked!
Indeed, the whole national security issue is a major contrast, and is why the Snowden types are on the run while this chick sits comfortably in front of congress. This chick is blowing whistles on a private corporation, while Snowden types blew whistles on the gummint.
But another major contrast is that the Snowden types challenged gummint power and surveillance, while the FB whistleblower calls for more gummint power and surveillance.
I think FB needs to be reigned in, for sure. I also think the gummint, for better or worse, is likely at least a better entity to keep watch over FB than FB itself.
But there’s also concern that could lead to some patriot act 2.0 kinda bullshit.

Re: Facebook, Google, et al
I’ve read criticism that this chick’s findings are really nothing new. Everybody already knew FB was and is up to some shady shit. So then, how is this news?
Some have even asserted the chick was some kinda federal double agent all along.

The Government having the ability to choose what can get posted on social media? That's scary as shit. I don't want the people who have the ability to make and enforce laws to be able to do that.ousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 1:47 pm Hey, the rhetorical question worked!

Re: Facebook, Google, et al
so, fb is gonna change it’s name?
dues zuck think a rebranding will cause people to forget all the negative policies and publicity?

Re: Facebook, Google, et al
I saw some thing that he wants Facebook to be just another brand or service in a bigger overall bidness that wants to take over the universe.
Is it just me or does Zuck seem overdue to faceplant into some manure MySpace style?

Re: Facebook, Google, et al
would be awesome, but i doubt it happens
fb has such a grip globally
Re: Facebook, Google, et al
I was never on MySpace but it seemed much more harmless from what I could tell
Just Ledoux it
Re: Facebook, Google, et al
I dunno about you guys but I’m still rocking Xanga
Re: Facebook, Google, et al
Facebook from 05 to, I dunno, 2012, was relatively harmless too.
Re: Facebook, Google, et al
Qusdahl asked me to point out that Facebook’s IPO was in coincidentally in 2012 too…
Re: Facebook, Google, et al
remember when fb was only available to a select subset of college students?
Re: Facebook, Google, et al
yea. Way cooler.
Remember when Facebook was only about connecting communities, instead of back door hoarding your personal data and monetizing everything?
And by “connecting communities” I mostly just mean sliding into the DMs of chicks from CnB’s dorm floor.

Re: Facebook, Google, et al
speaking of facebook....I havent been on since 2010 or 2011....but I'm gonna have to make one for my new business....apparently there is a ton of work that is only available through Facebook because apparently thats the only thing people are capable of using anymore.
I'm not excited about it. I almost want to hire someone just to manage the Facebook page so that I dont have to ever log on to that trash pile ever again. It has been SO good to not have to be on there. If I do it it will be very brief and very business oriented only I guess so thats not really the same...but still.
