21-22 lineup
Re: 21-22 lineup
Oh, go figure.
Yeah, covid threw a wrench in those gears.
And still, it’s just hard remembering that 21 team as some defensive beast, considering they got blown the fuck out more times than any other season I can remember.
Good defensive teams don’t loose by 34 in the second round. Nomesayin.

He's got a really sweet floater - it's kinda his signature shot. Several of them here:hasbeen wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 1:43 pm Really don't understand the concern about the size of our 2 guard. If they're creative around the rim it doesn't matter. Braun is big and not creative around the rim. I'd much prefer the former.
No clue if Yes is creative around the rim, just saying if he is then that's far, far more important than him being a few inches taller.
Re: 21-22 lineup
If you’re gonna offer that as an excuse then you can’t rip on Jalen for not finishing the season stronger too.
But still, a good defensive team has the depth to still be competitive even with a guy or two out sick.
And even then, a tournament narrative almost as big as covid was, we’re gonna try to get TGIF more minutes cuz we need more athleticism out there.

Re: 21-22 lineup
That post was not meant to rip Jalen, but rather to point out that we're all guilty of cherry picking which players were responsible for last season. But Jalen hit the wall way before getting COVID.
I don't agree with your second sentence. Losing your starting frontcourt is a huge deal for defense no matter how good their backups are. Last year's defense, at its peak, was elite and they played that way until MICH's fungus set in.
Re: 21-22 lineup
Yep. At the start of last season there wasn't much difference between Mitch and Dave defensively. By end of season there was a huge difference. Dave improved immensely at that end, whereas Mitch still fucks up regularly.
Re: 21-22 lineup
I guess.
Yeah, I suppose any team not named 2008 takes a huge step back without their starting bigs.
And yeah, maybe last year actually ended up pretty good defensively.
We got blown out by Texas, and Tennessee too, earlier in the season, but did seem to eventually dial it in.
If there’s a bigger gripe, it’s that the team struggled to score. Heck, 4 different conference games we couldn’t even get to 60. Not even on k state in February!

Re: 21-22 lineup
No question that last year's Achilles heel was scoring.
And, it probably will be this year, too.

Re: 21-22 lineup
Yea. I think it’s been said, but Mitch was prob recruited more as an old school PF, and was never really meant to be a lone big in a 4-out set.

Re: 21-22 lineup
In fairness, when we recruited Mitch, the PF was still a thing evidence by Malone and Barkley's dominance at that time.

Who played more years? Mitch or Sleeves?CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 4:18 pm In fairness, when we recruited Mitch, the PF was still a thing evidence by Malone and Barkley's dominance at that time.
Re: 21-22 lineup
And maybe we’ll struggle to score this year, but we also brought in a lot of guys that seem to address just that.
I don’t think Och/Braun/Jalen will all collectively struggle to shoot or finish as much as they did.
We’ve got 3 experienced transfers who scored a combined 46ppg at the D1 level last year. And only one is projected to start.
So that bench already projects a lot better than a true freshman shooting guard who can’t shoot, and a juco wing.

I think and hope we'll be fine, but consistent scoring would be my bet as to the "weakest" aspect of this team.ousdahl wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 4:25 pm And maybe we’ll struggle to score this year, but we also brought in a lot of guys that seem to address just that.

Re: 21-22 lineup
having a scoring threat at point should do wonders for both Och’s and CB‘s offensive output
Re: 21-22 lineup
Devonte was much bigger but next to never scored using his height. He was a good shooter, elite with both hands, and elite at using his body around the rim.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 3:33 pm I also don't buy that Frank is smaller than Yesufu. Remy six foot.
Vonte six foot one.

Re: 21-22 lineup
Why did I think he was 6'3"? He definitely played bigger when inside.
