Nice pick up. Current rated 32nd best edge in the NFL.

Jones = 39th
Danna = 82nd
Clark = 85th (oof)
Okafor = 101st

A 6th at this point seems necessary.
Wish we had just picked him up in free agency though.

He chose the Pittsburgh offer over the better Chiefs offer.

It's been players, and then execution issues, but man, the Chiefs have had a soft cover 2 going against them for 5 weeks and NOTHING has changed. Yesterday was a bit better, but it seems like things are not called to beat that defense.
That first drive of scripted plays was Andy Reid of old. Then the turnover bug bit. Then for awhile I thought they looked completely lost. The running game looked good for spurts but yeah, way to many times Mahomes looked confused or just didn't have anyone open.

Cover 2 can come at you in a lot of different ways and without seeing the All 22 I'm assuming they are seeing everything. I know this, I freaking love Patrick. Zero doubt about that but he simply has to play better. Far too many times I saw him complete passes but they were behind or not in stride. If teams are going to play conservative you may get two or three times to catch them in man coverage. When you get that chance you have to make the play. He missed Tyreek on a shot that could have completely flipped the game.

Right now, at least what I see is they have to win on first down. If they get a second and long which turns into a third and long with the coverages they are seeing guys either aren't getting open or the offensive line isn't holding up thus making Mahomes press to make plays. Those Mahomes Magic of old are gone.
Mahomes was looking to the next receiver way too quick and missing shots. He seems rattled by the poor offensive line protection right now as is playing a little spooked. Then the play calling seems to be failing to get guys open on enough plays. Last year, it seems like there were always guys open. The KC WRs led the league in distance between them and their defenders when they got the ball or some such stat. You'd think that if two safeties just drop 25 yards back to be the cap on the field that the 11 on 9 advantage would result in open guys underneath but KC isn't figuring it out very well right now. And Kelce looked slow and disengaged yesterday. He's either dinged up, not feeling well or mentally frustrated and not locked in.

I am not going to flip out about the seven ricochet interceptions. Sorenson playing is another story. Kelce needs to heal. The Chiefs lack some talent and the band-aid fell off. They need to let Mahomes work behind a good run scheme and it will work out.
But it's not front loaded.

It doesn't get any easier in the middle or at the end. The next three games are against teams that are a combined 28-4 and are all in first place in their division. Then we finish with every remaining team being .500 or above.

It's just loaded.

Patrick has set the bar so high he could never keep it up. He was bound to have a 'season' like this where his play just wasn't at the same level as we are use to. The fact of the matter is he is playing poorly. The reasons why aren't fully known but are more than likely a combination of personal life (having a kid) and then on-field not trusting his o-line, reverting back to bad habits (that in the past worked) and also the personnel around him just isn't doing their job to get open.

Again, I don't know what the play calls are and I don't watch the All 22 anymore but it seems like, in the small sample sizes I have seen guys are open but 15 either doesn't want to throw it or he feels phantom pressure so he resorts to kicking out and scrambling.

Even last year defensive coaches said they could confuse Mahomes and really I believe that is what he is seeing now. He might line up, think it is Cover 2 and the safety buzzes down. Now he and his personnel have to instantly react to get that adjustment right. It seems like more times than not they aren't on the same page or 15 doesn't react right.

Chiefs will beat the Packers
I would like that very much, but I don’t think we’ve seen *anything* this season that supports optimism.
I disagree. I don't think the Chiefs have been nearly as bad as the narrative around them. They should be 6-2 while playing the hardest schedule in the league. They CEH fumble against Baltimore and the horrible combination of PI against KC and the no call against SD cost the Chiefs 2 wins.

It is what it is, one of the many reasons why the NFL is far and away the best league in the US. KC has been wildly unlucky this season while also being incredible stubborn offensively. They've also been banged up all season. Not as good of a team as they've been the last couple of years, but they're also not a "7 win ceiling" team either.

I've said this a few times, but it's worth repeating. Football makes people dumb. They is so little context among football fans. Everything is hot takes and overreactions.
I was where you are a couple weeks back, but (1) at some point the sloppiness with the ball is who you are, and isn't fluky, and (2) Patrick just looks broken. He's scurrying from clean pockets for no reason (as if ghosts of February are chasing him), and his accuracy is dreadful.

Don't get me wrong - he'd go 1-1 in any league redraft, and nothing short of catastrophic injury could change that in the short-term.

But he just looks wrong right now.

I also agree that Mahomes leaves the pocket to often for no reason.

Also need to have more 3 step drop plays. Way to many 5-7 step drops is asking too much of the OT’s

Peyton and Eli broke down Mahomes film last night and showed several examples of him clearly pressing when he could have had a positive play. That's gotta be o-line and defense induced. Don't think Mahomes would be the one to worry about. Rest of the personnel looks like a different story.

Melvin Ingram will help. Kicks Chris Jones down to DT a bit more.

His snap count last night was 28 inside and 14 outside so adding Ingram you would think that would be the case moving forward.
Unless Spags wants him as the deep safety. (Eye roll)

The Chiefs played every AFC division leader early. So no fast start. Then the next phase is brutal too. But they were blessed with easier starts up till this year. Honestly, no margin for mediocrity all year.

That one kills me. He was even camped where the deep ball was thrown yesterday. He let the receiver get inside him. He grabbed the receiver anyway. Then dropped the ball into the receivers hands. And tackled him ever so gently. May have been the weirdest coverage yet by a guy who should play only on special teams. He seems to be the Vegas guy on the inside this year.

Sorenson, has regressed so badly this year that he should be special teams only. Hell, if he wasn't 'Dan Sorenson' the Chiefs would have cut him before camp even started.

I can't wait until the Chiefs no longer parade out Dirty Dan and Ben Worthless as 'best' options on a defense. For that matter I really hope that Spags is let go and they go with a young, hungry defensive coordinator instead of a re-tread, Andy buddy. (we all know that won't happen)

I’d say slim.

Played 32 snaps. 40% of the plays. Not bad for still only a few weeks with the team.

Nothing says upgrade like a 34 year old former speedster . Isn't he just an older version of Hardman? This team just needs to clean up what they are doing, not change up the parts and try to figure out how to work with them. The OL needs to communicate better and improve their technique. Mahomes needs to clean up his footwork, stop turning it over and stop getting panicky in the pocket and our existing receivers need to run their routes better, catch the damn ball when it comes to them and stop turning it over. And getting CEH back would help as well.
