In its statement Wednesday morning, the NCAA said that "the appeals committee determined the infractions panel had not abused its discretion in the determination of the level of this case or in the weighing of the aggravating and mitigating factors, the appealed penalties were upheld."

The ncaa is completely broken. This penalty in fundamentally ignorant.

Another tweet I saw interesting. Michigan State athletics knew about Larry Nassar for 20 years, and still received a lesser penalty than a $300 gift given to a player, who paid the money back and served a suspension.

I mean, the assistant coach was proven guilty of accepting bribe money from financial advisors and managers to influence kids to play for OSU, no?

I think a ban is valid.
But you need to apply similar punishments to all schools, big or small, for violations.
UNC should have been slammed. Duke should have been investigated.

Some other type of penalty seems more appropriate though. Fines to the universities, show/cause for the coaches, etc. They're right that the people being punished didn't do anything, the current players, the current coaching staff and the dozens of OSU fans are the only ones hurt, and they didn't do anything.

And I think it was for stearing current players to certain agents/businesses, I don't think it was a method of recruiting.

And it was patently obvious. In order to keep not-quite-NBA talent in college basketball...college basketball had to compete with the G League.

Weird how the market - take the G League Ignite salaries, or Billy Preston's alleged take, or known high-end NIL deals, or myriad other things - seems to have found an equilibrium.

I was listening to Hawk Tawk on the way home from work last night, and I was sort of puzzled by what Bill said about the team's Thanksgiving plans (they will be in Orlando at a tournament). He said they can't do a team Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel because it's too expensive. Something like $150/head, so the cost in the case of a player whose family travels for the tournament could be several hundred dollars.

I was sort of taken aback. I thought to myself, "Jesus, that's small peanuts for our budget," and even "maybe Bill should just handle this."

And then I realized the issue - it's not that we can't afford it. It's that we're not allowed to pay for the players' families' meals.
