I traveled to Italy for work the last week and returned yesterday. Somewhat of a surreal experience. Except for the nice seats business class may as well be economy. Food, drink, dessert all plopped down all at once!

Anyway I was in the Lufthansa lounge* during the transit in Frankfurt airport (total zoo - so things are normal!!) and they were checking vaccination cards for admission. A negative test during the preceding 48-72 hours, as required by the airlines is not sufficient. There were about 10 people in line and a couple of Americans who were in line and looking to join the line just left when they found out what was happening! They were very strict.

*Lufthansa lounge may be used by passengers on all Star Alliance flights. I was flying United

I hate the Frankfurt airport. Good chance you’ll have to walk miles.

I had terrible experiences there.
1) I watched a Polish woman (Non Jew) and an American woman (Jew) get interrogated for the sole purpose of THEIR entertainment.
2) I watched a little girl get her stuffed animal confiscated for the sole purpose of THEIR entertainment.
3) I watched myself get harassed because they ALLEGEDLY claimed they felt I had too many electronic devices and it was a red flag. All I had was my cell phone and my mother's Kindle and the various cords/chargers that accompany them.

I'm planning a trip to Italy this spring. Layover options are:

AMS - Amsterdam
CDG - Paris
FRA - Frankfurt

Was leaning towards CDG, but anyone have thoughts on these 3?

If you thought FRA is bad CDG is worse (although I’ve only been through CDG just a few times). I have been through FRA too many times to count and my experience has been mostly positive with the usual difficulties attributable to law of averages. Yes I’ve been singled out a couple of times based on my appearance but not any different than my experience in Charlotte or other places except Asia.

I really don’t have much choice due to the fact that United being my main airline. I’ve started connecting through MUC which I highly recommend. I trust Lufthansa to make sure you are set you up if things go sideways than Air France, Delta or KLM.

AMS, depending on the length of your layover. The Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum are really close together and a fabulous use of time. Strolling on the canals is great fun, too.

Layovers are complicated right now. Go through customs and you are due for another PCR test before boarding the next flight.

Never been to AMS or CDG. I will say FRA would have likely been better if I had Lufthansa lounge access, but I only had the generic lounge access. Those lounges left a lot to be desired, especially during COVID, in comparison to a lot of other overseas lounges.

My 21 YO is out getting tested. She's a social worker and most of the homes she's in don't believe in the fungus. And she's not feeling well.

given her age, and presumably good health, we’ve been assured covid poses zero threat to her

AMS, everyone speaks English and they won't pretend not to. Never felt any animus there towards US citizens.

wait, the fine they had to pay, or the lives of the employees they put in danger by their actions.

Never mind, I guess it applies to both.
