I think it would be pretty disappointing not putting up at least 75 points on a team that gave up 80 to UMKC in a double digit loss. The best here is 100+ to <50.

Come on man, now you're just throwing stuff out. That was the exact timeframe I was at KU and I went to every single one of those games. The 2005 game was loud, and we got written up in the media for starting a "Fuck Missouri clap clap clap" chant. But none were as close to the atmosphere that was Georgia Tech.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:20 pmLoudest for me:
KU Mizzou 2005-2008ish maybe (guessing, it was when i was in college)
In fact, at least a couple of those games were downright boring because they sucked really bad for a good portion of that stretch.
The games with the most juice, outside of GT, in that timeframe were absolutely Texas and Frank Martin Kansas State teams.

More from Bill Self:
"“We’ve certainly had unbelievably epic games in my tenure here and I know going back to the beginning of time in this building, A game like this, I can remember playing K-State or Missouri, regardless of how the seasons are going, regardless of how stale we are or how stale they may be at that particular juncture of the season, it just seems to all go away on that one day. Now it (crowd) doesn’t guarantee you playing well. It guarantees the energy level being so high it gives you the best chance to play well.”

He said this on Tuesday night. I think many posters only come here for KUBB content, which is interesting.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:21 pmWell well wellpdub wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:19 pmDamn.Wiff wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:18 pm Bill's take:
“I would assume that there won’t be a lot of empty seats,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “It’s the best game on our schedule. You can talk about Kentucky or Baylor or Texas or this one, this is the best game on our schedule, at least from a fan participation and from a player participation. We haven’t played ’em in nine years and back when we did play them, it was the best game on our schedule.”

I've also heard that the amount of students camping out for this one beats any in recent history.

I meant it was in 1 of those seasons in that range, not every match up from all of those seasons.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:26 pmCome on man, now you're just throwing stuff out. I can't remember the exact year.
I also wasn't ranking them in any order. Just off the top of my head.
I have never been to a KState game becuase my uncle KU Alum is from western Kansas and his brother is a KState alum so we always let them have that game out of our season ticket package.

That 05 UK was amped. BRush’s coming out party, RussRob blocking Rondo, and KU’s first big win against a big name ranked team.
That 06 comeback vs a top 10 Oklahoma team was rockin. The youngins growing up fast.

If everyone agrees that this game is exciting, that begs the question: why is it exciting?

Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
There have been so many mizzou games/eras that were pretty underwhelming cuz it was usually a 30 point blowout.

Had to be '05 then. It was wild. Quin Snyder was a great guy for the rivalry to lead mizzou and Bill still had that chip on his shoulder for Mike Alden/Mizzou.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:34 pmI meant it was in 1 of those seasons in that range, not every match up from all of those seasons.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:26 pmCome on man, now you're just throwing stuff out. Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
Hiatus is a huge reason.
If 5-4 mizzou walked into AFH tomorrow morning and we had played them twice each of the past decade, we would barely be talking about this game.
Case in point is how little attention the Kansas State game has received in recent years with Bruce consistently fighting for 10th place.

I do agree though that the GT is the greatest game I have ever seen in person. That was so fun.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:36 pmHad to be '05 then. It was wild. Definitely miss having season tickets and the freedom to drive 5.5hrs every few weekends. ☹
Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
A rivalry does not demand that teams be equal in skill level every season.
KU has an almost double game lead on the Tigers - and yet they are still ( or, if you're arguing against that, were in 2012, despite our large win advantage ) our biggest rival.

That year also had the highly ranked Oklahoma State game where JamesOn Curry missed a game winning dunk or shot. One of the most well known pics of Simien and Self came out of that ending.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:39 pmI do agree though that the GT is the greatest game I have ever seen in person. Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
I agree that hiatus is a huge reason for the increased level of excitement for this game. But there is little (if any) buzz when we are slated to play most any other non-con bottom-feeder basketball team - regardless of how long it's been since we have played them. There is certainly a reason why this game is different. It just is.
And I will sacrifice myself to watch Mizzou burn.

Right.
If we didn't play Kentucky for 9 years and they came into AFH at 5-4, ( or hell, 9-0 ) there wouldn't be a thread like this.
