Had to be '05 then. It was wild. Quin Snyder was a great guy for the rivalry to lead mizzou and Bill still had that chip on his shoulder for Mike Alden/Mizzou.

I do agree though that the GT is the greatest game I have ever seen in person. That was so fun.

Definitely miss having season tickets and the freedom to drive 5.5hrs every few weekends. ☹

That year also had the highly ranked Oklahoma State game where JamesOn Curry missed a game winning dunk or shot. One of the most well known pics of Simien and Self came out of that ending.

I also remember a Yale game around that same time frame....DJax got some weird steal spin move dunk/lay up thing and his reaction/fan reaction was so cool. The love fans have for some special individual players is a really cool thing to feel in AFH, especially when you can see/feel it evolve over the years.

I agree that hiatus is a huge reason for the increased level of excitement for this game. But there is little (if any) buzz when we are slated to play most any other non-con bottom-feeder basketball team - regardless of how long it's been since we have played them. There is certainly a reason why this game is different. It just is.

And I will sacrifice myself to watch Mizzou burn.

Certainly there wouldn't be this kind of excitement for bringing someone like USC back to the Fieldhouse or really most any other Power 5 team. There was a ton of excitement when UK came back for the first time in a long time in 2006--but KU/UK didn't really have the rivalry then like they do today.

I think the only return that would be bigger than mizzou or UK would be Duke if they would ever agree to come here. Place would be nuts. Same with UNC but if they had Roy.

Well with the expanded definition of rival to include any team that we play that is good , i was trying to compromise with a scale of measurement of sorts.

Personally i only consider Mizzou and KState as a true "rivalry".

I consider the rest to be hated competition or current peers or something else, but it's just different than the "rivalry" with Mizzou. It's not the same.

Again, we had people wanting Self to use the UK game a few years ago to rest our starters and get extra developmental minutes for the role players, becuase "winning it doesn't matter" since it was in the middle of conference season and we were in the midst of a historic regular season conference championship streak.

It's not the same.
