I also remember a Yale game around that same time frame....DJax got some weird steal spin move dunk/lay up thing and his reaction/fan reaction was so cool. The love fans have for some special individual players is a really cool thing to feel in AFH, especially when you can see/feel it evolve over the years.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:44 pmThat year also had the highly ranked Oklahoma State game where JamesOn Curry missed a game winning dunk or shot. One of the most well known pics of Simien and Self came out of that ending.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:39 pmI do agree though that the GT is the greatest game I have ever seen in person. Had to be '05 then. It was wild. Quin Snyder was a great guy for the rivalry to lead mizzou and Bill still had that chip on his shoulder for Mike Alden/Mizzou.
Definitely miss having season tickets and the freedom to drive 5.5hrs every few weekends. ☹

Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
Certainly there wouldn't be this kind of excitement for bringing someone like USC back to the Fieldhouse or really most any other Power 5 team. There was a ton of excitement when UK came back for the first time in a long time in 2006--but KU/UK didn't really have the rivalry then like they do today.Wiff wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:49 pm I agree that hiatus is a huge reason for the increased level of excitement for this game. But there is little (if any) buzz when we are slated to play most any other non-con bottom-feeder basketball team - regardless of how long it's been since we have played them. There is certainly a reason why this game is different. It just is.
And I will sacrifice myself to watch Mizzou burn.
I think the only return that would be bigger than mizzou or UK would be Duke if they would ever agree to come here. Place would be nuts. Same with UNC but if they had Roy.

To be clear, I am also in the camp that KU-Kentucky is a rivalry.
Ain't no seats
Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
I can be in that camp as well.
But it's like:
MIZZOU
ksu
KentuckyBaylor

ISUWVU

but i thought we are only allowed 2 rivals?
that list has 10!?!?!
that list has 10!?!?!
Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
Well with the expanded definition of rival to include any team that we play that is good , i was trying to compromise with a scale of measurement of sorts.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 2:01 pm but i thought we are only allowed 2 rivals?

Personally i only consider Mizzou and KState as a true "rivalry".
I consider the rest to be hated competition or current peers or something else, but it's just different than the "rivalry" with Mizzou. It's not the same.
Again, we had people wanting Self to use the UK game a few years ago to rest our starters and get extra developmental minutes for the role players, becuase "winning it doesn't matter" since it was in the middle of conference season and we were in the midst of a historic regular season conference championship streak.
It's not the same.

Kentucky over Baylor, for sure. Baylor is speculative and the fans have 0 interactions.
Only Baylor fan I know is Jason King (2nd time I have typed his name today, weird).

Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
KU/UK should be every year. I'd like to see more of UCLA on the schedule as well.
I know there is nothing for KU to gain, but I would be cool with playing WSU every year.

If you can promise me KU will win every time they play, I would like to play MIZZOU every year.
Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
yes, but Cal is the one that’s up
Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
Actually, unless I'm forgetting one, I think it might be tied now at 5-5.

2011 - 1-2 (KU loses to UK at Champions Classic NYC)
2012 - 1-3 (KU loses to UK in natty championship game)
2014 - 1-4 (KU loses to UK at Champions Classic Indy)
2016 - 2-4 (KU wins Big 12/SEC at home)
2017 - 3-4 (KU wins Big 12/SEC at Rupp)

Best active coaching rivalry in CBB?
Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
With only 10 career matchups?
Seems their "rivalry" maybe exists more off the court in recruiting battles and on messageboards than it does on the court?

Re: Muck Fizzou 2021
yes, especially since Beard is heading to SEC
Self-Drew is getting pretty good though
Self-Wright is up there too
