Absolutely not.Mjl wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 8:45 amAnd that justifies a blank check?BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 8:16 am Our military does a lot of good things for our country. Provides jobs. Provides protection. Provides education.
But we "blank check" a lot of things it seems like.
Re: Uncle Joe
200k in big cities is quite different than 200k in more rural areas. For it to make sense it would have to incorporate cost of living in where cutoffs would be.Mjl wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 8:46 amDoes it? I was under the impression I would have to pay that back come tax time, but wasn't sure.
Edit: Google is a wonderful thing. I guess you keep it if you're an individual making $200,000 or household making $400,000. Where do you think the cutoff should be Mich?

so....we should disband the military?Cascadia wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 9:09 amThe fact that people still believe this is insane. the military does do a lot of good things and provides opportunities and assistance to people who go that route.
Just Ledoux it

Re: Uncle Joe
an individual making $200,000.00 does not need gov't assistance.

Re: Uncle Joe
Talk about absurd:
And I agree with MICHHAWK as well. It’s all unnecessary spending. So much good could be done with all that money.

Re: Uncle Joe
Makes sense if we're going to have to take over the world someday.
Re: Uncle Joe
Aren’t we already trying our damndest to take over the world?
Is there any other country that’s still just as plain imperial as us? Particularly in terms of military footprint, pursuit of resources, etc

Re: Uncle Joe
At some point the environmental crisis may require us (or whoever is most capable) to take over a large portion of the world if we plan to continue our existence on this planet. Thinking everyone is going to sit around a campfire eating smores and agree to things is fantasyland.

Specifically, why’s it have to be a matter of “take over” the planet, as if the answer to climate change is more imperial hierarchy?
And why us? What makes us the best equipped to tackle the issue? And least vulnerable to being corrupted in that pursuit by more cynical interests?
Re: Uncle Joe
Military industrial complex. We, as in the US, neither have right or earned privilege of such a responsibility, but we sure as hell have the force to take it.
Re: Uncle Joe
Ironically, the MIC is one of thee biggest contributors to climate change of all
Like in itself bigger than most other entire countries

Re: Uncle Joe
But judging by the Merican imperial track record, we’re far less likely to use our power to be leaders in combating environmental destruction, and far more likely to use that power to just go looting for more oil
