And that justifies a blank check?
Absolutely not.

But we "blank check" a lot of things it seems like.

Does it? I was under the impression I would have to pay that back come tax time, but wasn't sure.

Edit: Google is a wonderful thing. I guess you keep it if you're an individual making $200,000 or household making $400,000. Where do you think the cutoff should be Mich?
200k in big cities is quite different than 200k in more rural areas. For it to make sense it would have to incorporate cost of living in where cutoffs would be.

so....we should disband the military?

the military does do a lot of good things and provides opportunities and assistance to people who go that route.

an individual making $200,000.00 does not need gov't assistance.

that is absurd.

I agree. The only assistance they may need would be with budgeting and excess spending if they can't live on that.

Talk about absurd:

And I agree with MICHHAWK as well. It’s all unnecessary spending. So much good could be done with all that money.

Makes sense if we're going to have to take over the world someday.

Aren’t we already trying our damndest to take over the world?

Is there any other country that’s still just as plain imperial as us? Particularly in terms of military footprint, pursuit of resources, etc

At some point the environmental crisis may require us (or whoever is most capable) to take over a large portion of the world if we plan to continue our existence on this planet. Thinking everyone is going to sit around a campfire eating smores and agree to things is fantasyland.

They are not getting the new child tax credit.
Are you happy now?

Why?

Specifically, why’s it have to be a matter of “take over” the planet, as if the answer to climate change is more imperial hierarchy?

And why us? What makes us the best equipped to tackle the issue? And least vulnerable to being corrupted in that pursuit by more cynical interests?

Military industrial complex. We, as in the US, neither have right or earned privilege of such a responsibility, but we sure as hell have the force to take it.

But judging by the Merican imperial track record, we’re far less likely to use our power to be leaders in combating environmental destruction, and far more likely to use that power to just go looting for more oil

It was also one of the first “entities” in the US gov’t to take climate change seriously and start strategizing for it.
