If a stadium is being built that means that demand would be at an all time high, not seen since 08-09. I don't know how they could pull that type of demand out of Lawrence for the exact reasons you stated and I can see the students not wanting to drive or having to find other means of transportation to attend games.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 10:17 amI honestly did not think about the Missouri part, you're right.holidaysmore wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 10:12 am My guess would be they would do the renovations or re-build in phases, similar to what Texas did a few years back. I can't imagine the bickering that would take place trying to have KU homes played some where not on campus or gasp, playing in Missouri.
A phased roll out also makes it easier on the money portion instead of needing it all up front.
Lawrence businesses will bitch and moan about taking it out of town, but it all depends on the logistics.

I don't think KU is going to wait until the team is consistently winning again before pulling the trigger on a much-needed stadium project. I don't think they can afford to. If KU has aspirations of getting into the Big 10, they're going to move on the stadium sooner rather than later instead of waiting to see how the Leipold hire fully pans out.

Because of its age and iconic status now, the stadium is going to be upgraded in situ and in phases. Football is much easier than baseball or basketball because of its five or six home games. We will see movement quickly I think.

I am all for preserving history, but first and foremost, I just want the thing built right and built right for the next 30+ years.
If that means bulldozing everything and playing at Sporting Park for 2 years, so be it.

I get that, but a century of ball there. AFH is a great example of positive upgrades and preservation.
KU architects will have some fun working within those guidelines

KC has the best sports venue architects in the entire world. They'll come up with something really nice without forgetting history.
I just don't know infrastructure-wise what kind of logistical problems there will be with such an old building in an old part of town.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
kstate held their spring game at Sporting a few years back when they did something with their stadium and it seemed to be a big hit.
I think Sporting is the logical place to hold it. Only downside is Sporting will be playing at the same time, so will probably have to work around that and pay for turf maintenance/replace. But that’s a small downside.
I mean it holds like 20,000. That’s perfect for Kansas Football.

Children’s Mercy only holds ~18.5K. That’s kind of surprising.

The Sporting suites will be a big hit, too.
You have to have suites, so any smaller school is automatically out and no effing way are we going to Manhattan.

My upgrade idea: Giant porcelain community urinals. Toasted peanuts. Cigar smells. Maybe have the band run dangerously down steps for the pregame. Put a rubber track around the field. Put old school lime green astroturf in--hard as cement. Put in a scoreboard with individual bulbs. Offer to rent stadium cushions with backs. Sell Packer Plastics KU plastic cups with every large soft drink order.

This doesn’t fully go here but Karon Prunty has now landed at FCS North Carolina A&T. What a mighty quick fall for that talented kid.

Any new stadium needs to have the long urinal troughs. Remind the kids what the diehards had to go through.Sparko wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 12:25 pm My upgrade idea: Giant porcelain community urinals. I bet he doesn't regret burning the bridges he burnt here at KU. Yikes.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
Okay insiders, what is the story? Any more transfer portal players talking to the staff/likely to commit to KU?
Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
It's been quite the last couple of weeks. The only name I've heard mentioned is Miami (Ohio) SO DE Lonnie Phelps as a possible incoming transfer.
To the best of my knowledge we have not lost any additional players since 12/16
