Nevada starts two footers and a 6'7" dude. Only one of them can shoot though. The 6'7" dude has the worst fg % I have ever seen, it's like 16%. That's not just 3s.

That 6’7” guy is probably going to have the game of his life now. Probably go for something like 8-11 from three on us.

Bill saying in pregame exactly why FG% ain't all it.

CB is shooting 62.6% right now. And that's too high.

Needs to be taking way more than 2.9 3's per game.

Has Self lost confidence in JCL? I don't see Yesufu on this team next year.

IDK, I think Wilson and Yesefu have big roles next season. Plus Yesefu would have to sit out a year. Something like:

Harris
Yes
Dick
Wilson
McCormack or Clemence or Udeh

edit: although, I would not bet my life on Yesefu being better than Pettiford or Cuffe next season.

Yesefu is gone. His confidence is in the absolute gutter. Jcl too

Its kind of disappointing. Yes they don't understand the offense as well or guard quite the way self wants. Compared to the returning guys. But those are 2 very talented experienced proven guys that could help the team and self has given them no chance to learn or show it. They are on short leashes and feels like they get worse every week as their confidence degrades

Why stockpile talent and depth if you never use it? No reason our bench can't be a little deeper than basically just jalen wilson and a little mitch

It'll be hard to keep MJ Rice off the floor next year...I'm thinking he starts a lot of games.

Self tonight “Our bench hasn’t been as good as what we thought it could be, so we’re probably going to shorten it”
“I don’t remember anything he said, but it was a very memorable speech.” Julian Wright on a speech Michael Jordan gave to a group he was in

"But don’t ever get it twisted, it’s Rock Chalk forever." MG

How much shorter can it get? In close games Harris Remy CB and Och will all play 30+ min.

Hard for the bench to be good when you shatter their confidence early in the season. A couple of those dudes looked like they could be solid contributors and have gotten progressively worse as the season has gone on.

Probably from self giving them limited opportunity and yanking them so quickly over mistakes. Not impressed with how he has handled yesefu and jcl.

But with that said the starters are playing very well together. Hes done good there

What has Self done to shatter their confidence?
I think he's actually given them a decent amount of opportunity this season.

Wilson 18.6 MPG.
Pettiford 11.3 MPG.
JCL 8.8 MPG.
Yes 8.1 MPG.
KJ 5.5 MPG.
Clemence 5.5 MPG.

Self gave the new guys game minutes early in the season and Yesufu in particular looked awful. JCL is unfortunately (for him) fighting for Och and CB minutes and they are too good to spend much time on the bench.

If the new guys aren't getting game minutes anymore it's because it's almost January and they haven't shown any significant improvement in practice to earn those minutes.

Yesufu is not good yet.

JCL really only provides scoring and that's what we need the least due to Och and CB scoring almost 40pts per game combined.

And 7-8 man rotation is all that is needed. Especially when there is a significant drop off after the top 4 or 5 guys.

JW was supposed to be one of our 3 or 4 best players and he's 6th right now imo. Tough year for new guys to try to steal vet minutes. Our vets, particularly DH CB and Och have a lot of experience and comfortability with each other. When we take 1 of those 3 out we immediately don't look at good.

DH
Remy
Och
CB
DMac
JW
Mitch

That's who we should ride with this year. That's who can win a national title.

Outside of Jalen and Yesefu, I don't think our bench guys have been bad or have not shown improvement. Most of our starting lineup has just been so good and so consistent. 2 AA candidates again.

A lot of of our bench guys have been good, but that doesn't mean you split the minutes evenly.

We're veering toward "Sophomore Wilson Leaving KU Jayhawks* " headline territory. He's not playable the way things are right now, and we're well-beyond a slow start attributable to a short suspension. I'm not at all saying it's Self's fault, but talk about a guy that just looks broken.

* I can't tell you how grating I find "KU Jayhawks". It reads wrong, it comes off the tongue ugly, it's just awful. It belongs nowhere except vanity plates, out of space/scarcity constraints.

He didn't have as bad a game as we're making it out to be.
Got lost on defense in the first half - but he almost ended up with double figures - and played the same minutes as Remy.

I think he may be the 6th man that gets just as many minutes as some of the starters.
I haven't given up on Jalen.

Even through a bad first 8 games, he's still an outrageously good defensive rebounder. Statistically, among the best ever under Self, which is absolutely saying something.

If he's going to come off the bench, that's very useful.
