i said months ago that this team only goes as far as Dave’s realized ceiling
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Let’s hope so. Nothing personal against Dave, but he’s not a good fit.

"Not a good fit" is just a nice way to say he's not good enough to be a multi year starter/main piece at a place like Kansas, especially in years where we have national title hopes (which is most years under Self).

I bet if he was at Drake putting up 20 and 10 most nights (which he would do frequently) some people around here would love him.

Mitch starting tomorrow.

This is not good and will be actively harmful down the stretch.

Between how much of a headcase he is, how delicately you have to handle him even as a senior, and then combine that with his preference to fade away from the basket, his poor defensive rebounding skills, and just generally not playing to his size/frame, you would tend to call that player "soft," which is Bill Self's favorite word to say when someone is pissing him off.

I was also thinking it was a weird player/coach fit.

I am hoping it's a one-off and Dave will respond positively, but we've seen enough to be cautious on that.

On paper he is a very good fit.

I think he and self are the bad fit psychologically/personality wise. Self can't get through to him because he doesn't relate to him.

I actually don't even disagree with the move since Dave has been ass all season, but it's not a good sign long-term that Mitch Lightfoot is our best option.

Man, 38.5% is really bad. Dave is a good offensive rebounder, but that suggests he should just kick it out for a 3 every time.

Exactly, it’s the player/coach fit that doesn’t work. Dave is too soft and Self doesn’t know how to handle those types. And I’m fine with that

I heard on here today that Lightfoot sucks at defense....

Apparently statistics indicate that is not reality?

The types of bigs we've played against thus far are vastly different than the type we'll see in conference.

We have 27 season of mitch to evaluate his play, not just the relatively weak nonconference schedule of this season.

I do wonder what Cam Martin would look like right about now. I think Clemence and KJ are about to get some serious run. Won't happen tomorrow at oSu, but it'll be soon.

My guess is lost. Over the past couple of years, Clemence was playing with and against better talent on average.

The redshirt kind of signals that that was a hail mary attempt that's going to get easily batted down. We'll see if he's even here next season. Schollies could be at a premium (NCAA).

I also think that this is one of those seasons where if Cam Martin is better than the freshmen, then you rip the shirt off right now and play him. No indication that will happen.

I think Cam wanted the red shirt more than we did.

We need mitch and Dave to be serviceable high energy interchangable pieces. Defend, rebound, and easy buckets.. The strength of this team is play making and versatility. Playing offense through a center is becoming an outdated concept

He did. He was a d2 guy that never expected to get a opportunity like kansas. He was smart enough to try to maximize it
