So true.

I’m shocked at the amount of time some people seem to spend on Twitter and Instagram.

While there is validity to TDub’s take, let’s also balance that against the interest in actually paying attention to the world further than 3 inches from your own nose.

at the end of the day, I think maintaining an awareness of news and current events is less an issue than naïveté and ignorance.

Yes.

Social media is just not the way to consume it....or be fed it by their algorithm.

Social media algorithms are an issue, for sure.

And it’s a bummer that it seems those most likely to be radicalized by the algorithm, are also those least likely to recognize it.

And - I know you guys will call me out if so, and maybe even if not, but - is it fair to suggest social media algorithms are better at radicalizing far righties than far lefties?

Think of it this way: are the more lobsters running around nowadays, or more Qusdahls?

Do you consider me the same as lobster?

And would you care to comment otherwise on my suggestion that social media algorithms radicalize more righties than lefties?

Not the same.

Totally different.

For different sides.

I think you probably think it radicalizes more righties. A righty would think it radicalizes more lefties. And i think it radicalizes enough from each side to fuck the rest of us over.

Exactly. It's a matter of too much time on their hands and a desire to be ticked off all the time.

Man, if only we could radicalize more lefties!

Next thing you know, maybe things like living wage and access to healthcare wouldn’t be dismissed as “every bit as crazy” as the misogyny and bigotry and literal nazism that the “different sides” are able to perpetuate.

Ya the left would never become so radical to suggest we should deny medical care to people we disagree with....oh wait...

I love how you lock on to the fringe right, but totally overlook the fringe "left" if that's what you want to call it.

Well, that prompts some another things:

Leftists should not be confused with liberals, though they often are.

And leftists are far from homogenous. Much less so than it may be among far righties.

So while there may certainly be divisive types who wanna deny care on some tit-for-tat partisan grounds, I’d guess the majority of leftists would be opposed to denial of care. It’s pretty ideologically at odds with leftism.

Mind, much of leftism is rooted in some basic sense of humanity and compassion, much more so than really any other mainstream political ideology.

LOL

And American democrats aren't? Give me a fucking break. I heard for 4 years the Trump was planted in office by Putin. That is was misinformation about Hillary that influenced people on the left to not vote for her.

I think there is ample evidence that people being susceptible to misinformation isn't a 1 party issue.
