Not sure yet. I'll be nervous for 2024 to see how the losing side reacts.

The left certainly didn't have issues rioting and vandalizing cities during the BLM protests.

Funny how those have a lot of that has stopped now that Biden is president. Strange. Not as many protests. Now people are just people breaking into stores and stealing in large numbers.

So i don't exactly feel like it's a certainty bad shit won't happen.
Saying that "the left" didn't have any issues with the rioting and vandalizing during the BLM protests is just braindead GOP rhetoric. The vast, vast majority of Democrats openly spoke out against such criminal behavior and actions. I am sure you can find a few exceptions to the rule but Biden repeatedly condemned it.

https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-fact ... SKBN25V2O1
You think it was a bunch of Republicans out there rioting looting and vandalizing?

I am not saying there weren't reasonable people on the left who condemned those actions. There were. I am saying it was Dems participating in the actions for the most part.

Just like there were reasonable people on the right who condemned Jan 6. But it wasn't a bunch of Dems storming the Capitol.
You are combining the people who were protesting with the people who were rioting. The people who went their to protest had one goal. The people who went there to riot were simply taking advantage of the protest to riot and loot. The political affiliation of people who are there to cause chaos and steal is irrelevant. They were not doing that for political reasons and it had nothing to do with politics.

You didn't need to read my mind. You just needed to read my post. If I really meant the GOP nominee then I would have typed that.

Is there data to suggest that?

Cuz I’m pretty sure that data has been historically difficult to collect, by design.
That I don’t know, and as you pointed out that data is often hard to find.

But, I stand by the rest of the post. I do believe things are getting better.

Well, it wasn't an intentional bait and switch fwiw.

I think Trump would be worse for the reaction, but I am not sure the danger of it happening completely dies if Trump isn't the nominee.

Sounds about White.

Systemic change doesn't happen that fast. Not even close. It's just not being used as a political motivator currently.

A handful of convictions is a blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things when it comes to racial equality/equity in the USA.

Many really do.

I have repeatedly and fairly consistently made an effort to keep the 2 seperated when it comes to this topic because there is a huge difference.

We had a fairly large protest in my city, and when the bad apples tried to turn it into something it wasn't supposed to be it would surprise many who stopped it. It wasn't the cops. It was some of the other protestors.

We will let the black community know you said that things are getting better for them. I am sure you're super in tune with that community.

I know you're a racial expert having grown up in diverse rural Kansas around a bunch of KStaters and now living in the cruncy white pacific northwest. LOL

It really hasn't changed at all from a rate of incidents.

https://mappingpoliceviolence.org/

It just feels like we have had a break from the controversial ones where blatantly terrible police brutality is caught on video and goes wild on social media. That's likely what makes it feel like there is "less".

The GOP has discovered that a significant, active, dedicated section of their voting base doesn't give a shit if their team plays dirty pool and many of the core GOP politicians in power have openly courted that base. The fact that the GOP plans to continue to court that base was made clear when they did what they did to GOP Rep Liz Cheney. Those who speak out against the lunatics are being voted out or removed from positions of power.

In relation to police officers being held accountable for committing crimes.

It's not schooling anyone. The question was asked as to whether any data existed and I did a little research. The source of that data should obviously be scrutinized as it doesn't really differentiate between a violent criminal being killed and a person who was detained for a random traffic stop being killed. THOSE are the incidents that rightly result in outrage and protests. The data doesn't show that THOSE incidents have increased, lessened or stayed the same.

Actually, I think the Chauvin and other convictions are still outliers.

As a whole, Merican policing is as brutal as ever. And as unaccountable as ever. (What happened to the cop who blasted a 14yo girl in a dressing room?)

If anything, the BLM shit had the unintended effect of just the opposite of defunding the police. Many departments got even bigger budgets out of it yet.

Like I said, sounds about White.

1 very public conviction (Chauvin) and a few other guilty plea deals/convictions is not systemic chage. It will take years and years for "things to get better" when it comes to the reasons the BLM protests were occuring.
