17 and 15 for Dave. I'd say the Self motivation worked exactly as we all hoped it would.

We need that Dave and Mitch combo.

And maybe the answer is that Dave is better coming off the bench. It avoids early fouls. If he's only going to play 20mpg let's make sure he can be in there at the end of games if we need him.

I agree there. DMAC held the ball where it was away from the defense too. Self stepped in that ass. His best game in eons

Self was fucking screaming in his face early in the 1st half and they used the clip for his player of the game spot on TV 🤣

So, this season is really going to boil down to the somewhat scary scenario of whether we get good Dave or bad Dave?

These type of stats are meaningless in my opinion.

I'd like to see something like KU's record when Dave scores in double figures against the following

Top 50 KenPom
Top 25 KenPom (road/neutral)

I should probably clarify a bit, that's how I want to see all stats for KU teams and players.

Racking up wins and meaningless stats against the Little Sisters of the Poor schools just lead to false confidence.

I'm not endorsing the Rothstein tweet. Just a way to get conversation flowing from what I think we all saw last night: good Dave vs. bad Dave looks like it's going to mean a lot for how good this team is. And that should make everyone pretty damn nervous come March.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Yea.

For better or worse, this team’s ceiling depends more than anything on which Dave shows up.

I agree with the good Dave vs bad Dave take and it does make me nervous for March. Even more nervous for April.

It might just be semantics, but our guards are driving this bus and will be the one taking us anywhere. They themselves can go to an Elite Eight. Lose an important guard and forget it, even the 2nd weekend is tough.

Dave is probably the x-factor of being in or out of the Final Four, yes.

Well, it’s just awful difficult to imagine any kind of deep run in which we DON’T encounter at least one elite D1 front court.

And the only real piece we have to counter that much, is Dave.

His peak changes the entire game.
We don't need 17 and 15 but we might need 13 and 8.

Self as said how important DMac is to this season often. His doing well on offense is not just the points but the doubles and attention to him posting up.

Dave said B12 is like a new season to him. Hopefully he follows suit and does what he did in conference play again. He does that and we are a 1 seed.

If coming off the bench works for Dave, then why would we be in a hurry to change that?

Not suggesting, just pondering.

Yeah.

If Dave is less jittery by checking in after a time out rather than starting, why not.

It's worked for a lot of teams in the past. One of the more obvious being Marvin Williams and UNC.

Keep him psychologically "angry" and let him come off the bench.

If it works, it doesn't matter, he will still get the minutes.

I suppose the trade-off, is if our sacrificial lamb Mitch is getting barbecued by some good frontcourt, so we’re already down double digits by the time Dave checks in.

hopefully Self wouldn’t let it go that far before making the change
