The Ky Thomas story is going to be interesting. Someone around the Minnesota program already called out K-State for trying to recruit him before he even put his name in the portal so he's going to coveted around the midwest.

We already have 4 sophomore running backs, why not make it 5!

I don't think he'll come here, but I wouldn't mind having him. He was good in his limited time for Minnesota last year. But was likely going to go back to a 3rd string role at Minnesota.

Probably wants to go somewhere that will put him RB1. Neal and Morrison seem to be the top 2 with Hishaw not far behind them.

Is Thomas more of a bruiser back?

That could be a nice combo with he and Neal.

I think Morrison kind of is that bruiser along with Hishaw.. Hishaw is a freaking bowling ball of a back.

Not to say I don't want Thomas here, just think he'll be 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart and he may not want that.

Lots of good running backs is not bad to have but another that is a sophomore might not be the best long term. I was hoping there was some exciting news. A nasty defensive lineman would be great. Don't know anything about Lonnie Phelps but maybe he would fit that role. 9.5 sacks for the year sounds promising.

Not losing players also counts as a win. Just curious if we were in the mix to land the OU qb and wr combo that just entered the portal. I know keep dreaming.

Thomas is just more proven than those two. I'd take it.

Just kind of thought of this. But I bet Morrison comes here with the understanding that he's going to get anywhere being 35-45% of the reps. You bring Thomas into the picture, you are lying to somebody.

Probably set as of now
Neal 60%
Morrison 35%
Hishaw 5%

Thomas coming here makes it a challenge to find room for all 3 of those guys and make them all happy. Depth is always nice, but happy, content players matter too.

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Leipold was at his best at Buffalo when he had Jarrett Patterson and Kevin Marks as a 1-2 punch and they ran it down people's throats on a consistent basis. I think they want to do that here, too.

Ky Thomas is visiting next weekend. This story is going to heat up fast it feels like. K-State wanted him bad enough that they contacted him early and Minnesota/PJ Fleck filed a tampering complaint against them with the NCAA. Perhaps that hurts their chance of landing him. I understand it seems like there's no place to fit him onto the current roster with the loaded RB situation but I think Leipold would make it work of Thomas really wants to come to Lawrence.

KU plays WVU next Saturday, maybe he attends the game and gets a little taste of the fans and commits.

Yeah it sounds like that was the plan versus this weekend with the basketball team on the road.

I would think after growing up in Topeka, then going to Minneapolis, and coming back to Kansas that Lawrence would be a pretty easy choice over Manhattan KS. Maybe that's just me, and of course there are other considerations, but it doesn't seem close especially after that path.

Was he one of those that was a pretty heavy KU lean, but visited Minnesota and Fleck had a thing there to where if you visited, it was tough for you to leave without a commitment. Like they begged for it.

The Miami (OH) d-end Lonnie Phillips is going to visit next week as well. That's a guy that would be a big boost for KU.

KU needs an edge bad. Lost Johnson and Parker.
