Yellow Sub was the most overrated spot in Lawrence.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Re: Sandwiches
sorry, but no
not saying it’s one of the best by any means, but it’s in the top half (at least for me)

Re: Sandwiches
Well, by that same logic - “Asian” food that’s not grocery store Chinese in the Midwest, it’s overrated relative to…?
Re: Sandwiches
I like Zen Zero but Thai Siam lands some dishes, particularly their Panang, much better.
Jade and Plum Garden were around well before Zen Zero.

Re: Sandwiches
Speaking of Lawrence food, I hadn't been to El Potro yet ( I know the Lawrence location is not the original ) since it opened around the movie theater ( what, 3 years ago ) and it was everything I wanted.

Oof, yes Zen Zero was hot garbageCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 6:57 pmI would say Zen Zero by a good margin.
White midwesterners first foray into eating "Asian" food that's not grocery store Chinese food.

My wife managed the Sub for a couple years in the mid 80s.
Re: Sandwiches
We stopped going to Panera a couple of years ago. The sandwiches are awful, portions small and overpriced. The black bean soup and tomato soup in a bread bowl is good but that’s it. Still overpriced.
Yello Sub vegetarian sandwich was awesome - one of my favorites in Lawrence in the mid 80s

And when completely hung-over... Village Inn

Cascadia seems not to like anything at all.

Re: Sandwiches
All those places long gone 99.
I used to eat at the Village Inn and Cornucopia growing up.
Another good one was the original Casbah.
I also ate a ton at Furrs Cafeteria.

Firrs rocked it for a 'farmer's dinner.' And John (can't remember his last name) entertaining the masses with his mini casio keyboard! John's hang outs were Prima Tassa and the train tracks in NoLaw.
Re: Sandwiches
I had forgotten about La Prima Tassa. I’m trying to remember exactly where that was.

Re: Sandwiches
Milton’s wasn’t good but The Roost is.
Bacon and sausage both tasty.
Biscuits and gravy.
Toast from Wheatfields I think.
Solid variety of Bloody Marys.
But if I was going to pick a restaurant that wasn’t worth the wait, only because the wait is so long, it’d be The Roost.
