vaccines aren’t, and never have been, a magic bullet for covid
The orders of priority here are:
1 - Reduce severity of cases (hospitalizations and deaths), and then
2 - Reduce transmission.
Obviously if and when a vaccine or other path can promise real progress on 2, we'll pivot.
it’s oversimplified and wrong

I wish a full 1/3 of the country wasn't acting like they need to be treated like children.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Just got notice they closed my youngest son’s daycare this week due to Covid concerns. Apparently over 20% of staff and students have or have been exposed to Covid. Our 2yo only goes twice a week and hasn’t been there since last Thursday fortunately.
What a mess.
What a mess.

MCC of Kansas City announced today their classes are going to be virtual until February. More colleges in the KC metro may follow. I heard it is getting tough to run a campus when a 1/4 to 1/3 of the support staff is home sick.

My cousin, who is a physician in a large hospital in a metropolitan area in Texas, said that all her echo cardiogram technicians are out with Covid and no one in her hospital can get their heart imaged!

While this may be the greatest country on Earth and there are many wonderful things about it, I feel anyone who doesn't realize that this country sucks in so many ways - is ignorant.

Did I see Biden is requiring insurance companies to pick up the tab for covid tests?
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
I need to figure out how it works.
So I could go buy covid tests at the store, and send the receipt to my insurance for reimbursement?
In my area, at least, other testing options are still limited.
2 years into a pandemic, and here we are.

Maybe they're just protesting the perceived lack of precautions by saying they're too scared to come to work while actually getting on a crowded jet, flying halfway across the country, and then watching a sporting event in a crowded venue full of unmasked people. I've heard that happens.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 8:55 pmWhile this may be the greatest country on Earth and there are many wonderful things about it, I feel anyone who doesn't realize that this country sucks in so many ways - is ignorant.

More anecdotes!
Have you actually heard of some medical professional faking covid to get out of work so they can fly to a Bulls game instead or whatever?
Cuz if so, gutter would have blurry cell phone pics to confirm.
Or, are you sure it was medical professionals? Or maybe just that sushi waitress?

Transitioned to endemic?
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
In the first week of 2022, Europe registered at least 7 million cases of the coronavirus, more than doubling over a two-week period, WHO regional director Hans Kluge told an online briefing. Almost all the countries in the WHO’s European region — 53 nations and territories including some in Central Asia — have confirmed omicron cases.
“At this rate, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation ... forecasts that more than 50 percent of the population in the region will be infected with omicron in the next six to eight weeks,” he wrote on Twitter.
The latest data confirms the variant’s high transmissibility, according to Kluge, “because the mutations it has enable it to adhere to human cells more easily, and it can infect even those who have been previously infected or vaccinated.”Healthy, boosted people unlikely to develop severe omicron infections, but jury’s out on older, at-risk populations.
This “unprecedented scale of transmission” has led to rising numbers of covid-19 hospitalizations, Kluge told reporters. “I am also deeply concerned that as the variant moves east, we have yet to see its full impact in countries where levels of vaccination uptake are lower.”

RTW delayed again for me. I'm not surprised, but now the new, tentative date is 03/01/2022 with a hybrid mode. It's going to be quite the adjustment for me (and I'm sure a lot of people) who have worked from home coming on 2 years to have to start getting up earlier, dealing with traffic, office politics and all that BS. I haven't been downtown in over a year! Crazy. I'm sure China is busy cooking up a new variant, so who knows.
