It feels like MasterMind with letters rather than colors. well, plus they have to combine to be an actual word too.

I was 95% sure the A needed to be #1, and that I needed to clear the B (among D, L and a few other things). I couldn't think of great options (that didn't involve duplicating something that I already knew was bad), so I shot my shot. Pretty lucky.

I don't want to post my current strategy on move 1 and 2 b/c I think it's fun for people to figure it out, but I think my current strategy is best for definitely solving the puzzle in 6, but not great for solving it in 3--which the latter requires a good deal of luck.

Yeah, if you read around there are a couple "optimal" first words (which are hardly even words so much as relics of iterations in the English language). I don't use those, but I do have a few stock starters that are about what you'd expect (think of getting RSTLNE in Wheel, and add in a vowel).
