CB being more of the CB from before conference play would help too.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 4:43 pmOch going from a Guy to a Dude matters a lot. He's got a nose for the ball, and when he lets shots come to him instead of always trying to create, he's a much better player.
Having those multiple options really means were not on the razor thin margin of error that we had last season. Which is weird given it's largely the same personnel.

Re: Draft Watch
he's starting to come on strong. he's been hitting shots again, has rebounded the ball really well, and i love the way he pushes the ball up the floor after rebounds. he makes us super versatile and tougher to guard as a unit. I like the way he's been playing.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 4:41 pmI've been pretty hard on Wilson, but I think he's accepted/settling into his role.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 4:24 pmIt's a weird year. Och is clearly a first team AA. I've been way down on Wilson of course, but if two out of Braun, Wilson, Dave and Remy are B+s on any given night...we're awfully tough to beat.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 4:07 pm If this team ends up with 2 1st round picks and then guys like Clemence, Wilson, maybe even Adams ends up getting drafted later--that kind of falls in line with Self's Final Four teams.

I've always hated his defense, but its gotten better too
Re: Draft Watch
For sure he'll be in the league.
I'm just hoping he goes to the combine and gets some things to work on and comes back after he sees Ochai go lotto.

Re: Draft Watch
Not sure about "some things".
He needs to improve his shooting. Everything else is good enough.

Re: Draft Watch
Defense is still a little hit or miss.
Shooting, of course, is a huge part to being good in the pros at his position ( at most positions ).

Re: Draft Watch
Kevin Huerter-ish. Although Huerter is a tad bit taller i think. Similar stats in college. Huerter a slightly better shooter from 3pt.
Re: Draft Watch
Huerter shot 42% from 3 in his last year at Maryland compared to Braun's 32% but I see what you're saying.
Re: Draft Watch
Who cares if his D is hit or miss, or if his shooting % is trending in the wrong direction, or if his overall production dips when playing anyone better than mid majors.
I don’t care about that shit, and neither do scouts.
What me and scouts DO care about, is that he’s a good keed with no ink from western KS too. Let’s face it, that’s why I and so many others here love him.
If you shrug off the stats and factor all that instead, his ceiling is even higher than illy in a country club parking lot!

Re: Draft Watch
If your weakness is defense, you're in good shape for the NBA.
Re: Draft Watch
Your analogy if flawed. They are not nearly as close of a comparison as you are suggensting. For example Braun weighs 20 lbs more. Huerter is from New York and Braun is from Kansas. Huerter plays in the NBA and went to college at MD, whereas Braun is currently in college at KU.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:13 amKevin Huerter-ish. Actually, there are more things different about them then the same. Bad analogy.

Re: Draft Watch
Givony nails it saying shooting is his swing skill, but I can’t see how anyone could be convinced it’s a real concern. If there were real doubts about it, no way he would be seen as a 2022 prospect. Very few players these days go to the league and get worse from the perimeter. It’s not as if his shot is jacked up like Garrett.
Re: Draft Watch
You have to think with practice, NBA spacing and half hearted defense, Braun will be a better than average NBA 3 point shooter.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:37 am Givony nails it saying shooting is his swing skill, but I can’t see how anyone could be convinced it’s a real concern. Yes, and those things will get him more open looks, as well, which is what he feasted on his frosh season.Cascadia wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:58 amYou have to think with practice, NBA spacing and half hearted defense, Braun will be a better than average NBA 3 point shooter.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:37 am Givony nails it saying shooting is his swing skill, but I can’t see how anyone could be convinced it’s a real concern. Even since he's been more of a focus on opponent's defense, I don't think most of our fanbase has a lack of confidence in his perimeter shot. Other than Och, JCL, and maybe Clemence, I'm more confident in CB to make a 3 attempt than anyone else. That game winner against OU wasn't some miracle. And then you have to mention the FT percentage.
Re: Draft Watch
It's not common for 3 point % to drop from season to season.
He's a better shooter from perimeter than what he's shown so far.
I'd say that can be applied to Jalen Wilson too.
'bout half a season left to get that ship righted.

Re: Draft Watch
Not sure how much credence can really be lent to the half hearted defense thing, especially later in the season/playoffs.
And, an NBA athlete playing half hearted D is still tougher to score on than the average midmajor Tyler playing his ass off.
And yea NBA has better spacing, but that’s also in large part cuz the line is further back, which only makes shooting tougher.
To be a little more serious, Braun will absolutely have to improve his shooting to make the league. That’s what scouts told Och last year, and what they’ll tell CB this year.
While he does a lot of things well at the college level, I don’t think anything stands out highly enough to warrant a 1st round spot yet.
Sorry but he projects as a wing, not a point guard or anything else. NBA wings are pretty much all expected to shoot.
CB doesn’t have elite size or athleticism he can just cruise on, nor the elite D or ball skills that a guy like Garrett does to make up for his non-elite shooting…yet.
I think CB’s draft stock will be best improved by the experience of declaring, and a senior year of improved shooting
…that is, unless some GM goes full Q and is just so smitten with his intangibles or whatevers

Re: Draft Watch
I don't think CB is the type of player that can come back and work his way into the lotto.
I could be wrong on that, but I just don't think he can ever change that he will be a defensive liability against the quickness that a lot of NBA guards bring.
