I think I see how the MLS has helped but not really. It’s certainly generated enough interest in the sport that it’s starting to draw more athletes showing them that professional soccer is viable. However the overall quality of play is very much below the European, UK, South American and Mexican leagues. Top players still opt to play there for more money and more visibility. A good analogy would be the comparison of Greek or other European pro basketball league to the NBA. The MLS is like the former but still develops great interest in the sport; the best players still come overseas

It's fair to argue that MLS has helped raise the popularity of soccer in the US, but it's had very little impact on the USMNT and, even less so, the current bright future of the USMNT. Almost all of our best players would still be where they are today without the existence of MLS.

You clearly don't follow the sport very closely.

lol, an all star game

I like your enthusiasm and appreciate your support, but you clearly don't follow very closely. Liga MX is substantially better than MLS

Solid lineup today other than Zardes. Makes you wonder if Pepi has a small injury. Hopefully Gyasi doesn't fuck it up.

No Pepi and having Zardes instead stinks.

Zardes is so bad.

Also a really good save by their keeper.

Their keeper's pants are kind of hilarious and awesome at the same time.

Yeah, Zardes sucks.

If you don’t get 3 vs Honduras, you have to consider letting go of Berhalter.

I'm a little torn on this one, but don't completely disagree.

Today isn't a complete failure, but it's pretty disappointing. Getting 3 points against Honduras would make this window a success. 6 points in 3 games is always solid

We need 5 points in 4 games now.
The home game v Honduras is a must win.

If you cant get the 5 points, then yes, you fire him.

This is the worst scoring US team in qualifying since the 2002 team. After 10 games, we've scored 13 goals.

Previous years were in the 15-17 or 18 range.

Goal scoring has been an issue, but I do think some of that is the youth of this team. I have an entire spreadsheet built (bit of a nerd alert) on the USMNT player pool and it's absolutely insane how young this team is right now.

That said, some of the goal scoring issues are because of Gregg's tactics and he inability to move away from marginal MLS players.
