Divorce rates have plummeted in younger generations now that more people are choosing to finish their eduvations and get their careers kick started prior to getting married.zsn wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 11:02 am
I don't think that the rise in divorce rate is an accurate representation of lack of marital bliss. The reason divorce rate is higher now that it has been (say, 50 years ago) is because it has become more socially acceptable and women have a way to support themselves better these days, without having to rely on a man to provide that support (from 50 years ago).
Which leads to the rates of spousal/child abuse. I seriously doubt that spousal abuse is any more prevalent now than it was, say, 50-60 years ago. It is certainly more in the open, perhaps based on the reason I stated above - women had little recourse. I will just point to fact that in the age of b-w television spousal abuse was a prominent laugh line in an extremely popular sitcom ("To the moon"; "Right in the kisser") - to be fair, Alice always got him back, but the fact that it was OK to even put that in public demonstrates how "acceptable" such behavior was.
But that's no shock.

Less people getting married young.
Why? Waiting until after school is done and after careers get started like I said. And yes, there are also less people choosing to get married at all for a huge variety of reasons.
And to try to tie it back to the point of this whole conversation, I don't think these things mean that the American Dream is dying as Tucker Carlson is foolishly trying to claim.
It just means that people are redefining what they consider to be their American Dream. We don't all have to have the homogenous dream. His failure is in calling AN American Dream THE American Dream.

Those guys might not realize it, but chances are, they are better off. They can go overseas and find a better option.
Those women come with a clock, and if they want kids, it might be impossible. No man wants a 37-year-old feminist.
Re: Tucker hit the nail on the head with this
Mrs 99 is a 50+ feminist. You're borderline offensive.
Defense. Rebounds.

Being in a relationship is sometimes hard and sometimes awesome, whether you are legally married to the person or not.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 3:08 pm marriage doesn’t seem to mean what it used to...feels like a bad thing, but maybe not

Maybe they were just married to dickheads who does think they're dickheads. Men who think they can order a wife like a car part dont make good husbands to a growing portion of american women.

I know about a dozen such couples. In every case, I’d place the men in the relative loser category. In every case, the women are really hard working and usually business minded. These dudes married up in a big way.
your experience may vary
