Re: The Travel Thread
Go figure, flight’s delayed.
You know what that means….
Travel thread edition 5 questions of the day!
1. What should Q do to pass the time?
a. Drink heavily
b. More story time! Illy where yat
c. Practice my moonwalk on the magic carpet moving walkways
d. Catcall every serviceably shapely pair of yoga pants that walks by
e. all of the above, pretty much in that order
2. Which is more patriotic? Refusing to wear a mask at all, or wearing a mask but refusing to put it over you mouth and nose?
3. After the first 3 or 4 magaritas say Q catcalls some curvy hippie chick who fills her yoga pants well. She’s unexpectedly flattered, and asks to join for drinks. Turns out she’s on the same flight! Then all buzzed while boreding in SW’s corralled chaos seating strategy, she sits next to me. So I guess the question here is, who else is part of the mile high club?
4. What’s the ONE acceptable way to dine at Elway’s steakhouse?
5. If I can’t think of any other questions right now, does this one even count?

1. E (pretty sure we are well into b).
2. Masks aren't patriotic regardless of how they're worn/not worn.
3. *sigh*
4. Is it supposed to be good?

Re: The Travel Thread
Wow, so many enthusiastic responses. Thanks for keeping me entertained you guys.
There’s actually correct answers to be aware of:
1. e is close but the wrong order cuz it’s actually a, b, c, d, c, d, a, d, a, c, d
2. Not even an American flag mask would be patriotic, Q says basic health precautions are the stuff of fascism
3. Trick question! Q wouldn’t touch a hippie chick with a 10 foot pole. Now, as for the cowgirl in the wrangler jeans and the maga hat…
4. Actually illy almost got this right, cuz it’s not supposed to be good at all, it’s fucking Elways. As such, the only acceptable way to dine there is if you could have John yourself be the server then stiff him on the tip. (Bonus points if you demand he personally cut up the steak for you)
5. Shit, I shoulda asked something better than that! So I guess I’ll ask, instead of spending like $60 bucks a pop on cocktails at one of the bars, what if I just got a bottle of bourbon at the duty-free shop and downed it before anyone said anything?

Re: The Travel Thread
How about pacing around the airport for 4 hours and finally breaking down and buying one of those neck pillows to see if it actually helps you sleep on the plane, only to finally bored and the seats have built in neck supports anyway.
This is literally the only time ever that one of Q’s prophecies didn’t come true.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: The Travel Thread
Ohh, hammock, good call…so Q’s prophecy DID come true after all!
Also it turns out the person who sat next to me on the flight was actually JFK Jr.
And I’ve said it before, but it’s crazy how a damp 50 degrees on the coast can feel so much cooler than below freezing at elevation

Re: The Travel Thread
You on the East coast?
Re: The Travel Thread
No, west. You know, since the coastal PNW in February is such a popular destination for, uh, golf.
Oh! And about the flight delay:
The first message they sent said it was cuz the flight got stuck behind some other flight that was delayed. Then the next message said it was cuz of refueling delays. Then once on the plane, the pilot said it was cuz of some standoff on the previous flight with a passenger who refused to mask.
Sometimes Q just don’t know what to believe no more.

Re: The Travel Thread
Yay story time!
Never heard of planes giving that specific and random of updates on why you're delayed. How considerate.

Re: The Travel Thread
Man, the peninsula really is incredible. Some of the best golfing a Q could ask for in the middle of February.
Somehow, despite hanging out in Seattle and then in literal rain forests, I didn’t see one proper raindrop the entire time. Plenty of fog, sure, and lots of the little misty stuff that doesn’t require a rain jacket or even necessarily windshield wipers, but never a single actual raindrop.
The golf was awesome, though! The rivers were low due to that lack of rain, but still had that lovely glacial green color in any spot deeper than a couple feet.
Q’s golf swing mostly sucked, but I did manage to get the big prize: a hole in 1 on a par 4! My golfing buddy had a few good birdies, but mine was the single best feat of the trip. Here’s the celebratory trophy photo of me getting the ball out of the hole:

Re: The Travel Thread
For the PNW crowd and travelers, we are visiting friends in Seattle and the downtown hotels all seem to be much cheaper on the weekend than during the week--is this typical and for any particular reason? Better place to stay than downtown these days?
Re: The Travel Thread
I used to know Seattle well but i'm 10 years out of the loop.
But I used to stay in Fremont.
Walkable to do things on your own, away from the crowds, but not a tough drive to get downtown - you are already in the city.

Re: The Travel Thread
I am not a Seattle knower by any means, but my very limited recall is that it's sort of like Atlanta. You do not want to be in downtown proper, but in Bellevue.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 2:27 pm For the PNW crowd and travelers, we are visiting friends in Seattle and the downtown hotels all seem to be much cheaper on the weekend than during the week--is this typical and for any particular reason? Re: The Travel Thread
So our friends are in Bellevue (wild guess who they work for), so will be spending at least half of the time there. Have had a good time in downtown but not sure what it's like post COVID--thinking Belltown to get out of Bellevue.jfish26 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 3:05 pmI am not a Seattle knower by any means, but my very limited recall is that it's sort of like Atlanta. Re: The Travel Thread
My grandparents moved from Wedgewood to Bellevue in the early 2000's.
Bellevue is a beautiful, rich neighborhood - but it's pretty dull suburbia out there from what I remember - and the bridge to actual Seattle can take you 45 minutes to cross in traffic.
Just North of the bridge, once you're in Seattle, is the Ivar Salmon house which has both good food and a unique decor.
If you're in Belltown, you can head North to Discovery park and check out the Ballard Locks Salmon ladder. Depending on when you're going, you could see a ton of Salmon migrating to do their thang.
