Re: Strikes
it’s interesting that the UK has a higher homelessness rate than the US, despite similar governments seeming to handle the situation better
makes me think it has little to do with the kind of government, and more to do with the people running it

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Strikes
I pick Cuba!
Actually, in terms of exact country, I dunno, I’d want to do more homework first.
Just anywhere with the policies to make economies, education, healthcare etc more worthwhile for everyone.
If you’re in poverty you have Medicaid, yea, but in CO at least an individual cannot earn more than $17,131 a year to qualify. That almost incentivizes being poor.
And hope those Obamacare subsides help. (How many times did Republican lawmakers vote to take that away, again?)
So yea, you can also choose a market based plan. Again in CO, a healthy individual plan is prob gonna run you 350-500+ a month, just for the premium. Those plans often come with outrageous deductibles - so after spending thousands a year without even going to the doctor, be ready to spend thousands more if you do.
Not to mention out of pocket, out of network, all that crap too. Even with insurance, healthcare costs are insane.
Or, you can “choose” to be uninsured. I guess. In the same way you can choose to not lease a Mercedes Benz.
Either way, the number one cause of bankruptcy in Merica, is Mercedes Benz leases.
jk LOL it’s medical expenses.

Re: Strikes
ironic, given the title of this thread, but go figure…the number one hurdle to proper treatment of venomous snakebite in the US is cost of treatment
antivenom isn’t cheap, to make or to purchase wholesale, but hospitals mark the shit up ridiculously. the cost to the hospital is between $1K-$3K per vial, depending on the manufacturer. hospitals charge $10-15k per vial
but this situation isn’t a one-off outlier. pharmaceuticals being marked up 1000-fold is common
this has nothing inherently to do with the kind of government we have, but rather the corruption, lack of integrity, and inability to institute proper controls, of those that run the government

Love a good Cuban sandwich.
I only came to kick some ass...

^^^^
This guy gets it.
But bro we have a thread for that.
And actually, my first girlfriend was half Cuban. Her dad was some refugee. Nice guy. His daughter was kind of a wild child tho. After a long and meaningful relationship in the 8th grade, we’ve since kept in touch.
See illy I told you Olathe Latinas were a thing!

Re: Strikes
Being a scab can pay pretty well. In college I was working in a flour mill in KCKS one summer and they asked if any of us college boys wanted to go to Cleveland to work at another mill that was on strike for a few weeks. They offered us double our pay (our eyes widened) and we would get to live in a hotel and order room service every day (we got grins on our faces). Then they told us we would get to ride to work and back every day in a helicopter so that the strikers couldn't beat the shit out of us......that took some of the shine off the offer.
Time for another "strongman/law and order" presidential candidate who promises to crack some heads to make an appearance. The rubes suck that shit up all day.

Re: Strikes
WTF
Why pay Japhy double plus hotel and room service and helicopter rides, when you could just pay the strikers better in the first place?

Re: Strikes
Yeah, fuck being a scab.
I drove onto a construction site in Detroit about 30 years ago just as the Ironworkers were turning over the job trailer and the GC's trucks and starting a bonfire. I made a quick pivot and went to a different jobsite. I once got hauled off a job site to meet with Anthony Cafaro Sr in Youngstown. I had some questions about whether or not some underground power lines had been moved as per the plans. He asked me if I wanted a cigar and told me not to worry about it, he would personally vouch for everything being OK.
There are some people you just don't fuck with up in the Rust Belt. Helicopter rides can turn suddenly dangerous.

Re: Strikes
rumors of a railway workers strike, specifically against BNSF.
that would cripple a supply chain that is already in dire straits.

Re: Strikes
My dad worked for Frisco and then BNSF for 40 years. Had the occasional strike. Fortunately, no head bashing.
Defense. Rebounds.
Re: Strikes
Wtf, thousands of teachers and firefighters and nurses and such on strike in Puerto Rico!

Re: Strikes
Q too would rather pay the salaries of “union avoidance officials” before just giving goddamn workers a goddamn raise.
It’s a shame that they have to at least offer minimum wage. No doubt our savior genius Bezos would offer less if he could, but it would be illegal.
The invisible hand should decide wages, not fascist socialist policies. Free market my ass!

Amazon should be broken up. I don't understand how that isn't politically popular on both sides.
Re: Strikes
That’s among the sorts of takes that got Q labeled as a radical.
Quick, get back to glorifying evil rich people instead!
But to answer your question about “both sides” -when both sides of American political power protect the interests of capital more than anything else, there is no real “both sides” like you seem to think.
