How come Kobe didn't?

How come Durant or Embiid don't?

Sounds like some fan boy shit to me.

You have spun off into outer space on this one.
Bronny has also gone from the top ranked middle schooler to a Top 50+ ranked recruit (I only trust 247 rankings at this point, their rankings, not composite).

That’s a huge drop.
And if there was a notoriety bump in the rankings of even 50+ spots, that wouldn't be surprising. Or he might end up being Damian Lillard.
I think the “name” bump happened when he was younger and he’s now starting to be ranked more accurately.

But, it’s so entirely possible that he’s still benefiting from the last name. It doesn’t seem like he’s lighting the HS/AAU circuits on fire.

Yeah, I don't think you ever really lose the "bump." We know for a fact that just mere awareness of someone significantly boosts their recruiting ranking, and of course the offer list does too.

Bronny might be the best prospect in the class for all I know, but saying someone is one of the 50 best prospects in the entire country is very high praise. You have to be really damn good to justify that ranking.

@CnB

Agree and it’s likely Bronny is a very good to elite HS basketball player. But that still a long way from be a starter or rotational player in the NBA 3 years from now.

And, that’s the context of this conversation

The scouting report that he's 6'2" and that there is still a question of whether he can play point guard is enough to put a big question mark on his long-term potential.

The "3 years from now" thing has been created entitely by the anti LeBron crowd. Bronny may stay in college 3 or 4 years.

He may! In which case fulfilling Bron's pronouncement that his last year "will" be playing with Bronny is not entirely up to Bron!

I have doubts he goes to college. Seems like it creates potential that LeBron doesn't get his wish.

Yea, given all the ins and outs of this unique situation, Bronny prob has better routes to go than college.

He doesn’t need the exposure that college affords compared to G league or overseas or creating his own prep team or heck even just sitting around for a year reminding everyone he’s Lebron’s kid.

College may even be a double edged sword in that regard.

The worst thing that can happen for Bronny would be getting exposed by players that aren't even NBA prospects.

Or, in the KU hypothetical, playing 1 minute/game as Dajuan Harris's backup.

Overseas or prep school seems like the safest bet for a 1-year holding area.

I think it's okay for LeBron to do anything and everything to help his kid be as successful as he possibly can be, just like all of us would/should do for our kids.

If that means convincing NBA teams that his son is better than he truly is or him personally offering to help whichever franchise drafts his kid (whether that be on the court, or front office, hell I don't think it's wrong if he offers to be the person inside the mascot suit and do fun dances during timeouts). Nothing about it is "wrong".

Most of the ones who are whining about "comments" are the exact ones who whine about anything and everything LeBron related. Coincidence? I think not.

I don't think any of it is "wrong," but I do think it goes to what jfish was saying in that, if the end of LeBron's career is dominated about which team LeBron can get he and his kid to play together, it just kind of falls in line with LeBron being subjectively not that likeable of a star.

If Tom Brady was doing that this summer, people would lose their minds.

Yup.

If he suddenly looked more like a 3-4 year college guy and perhaps not a top pro prospect after all, that’s all going down while the clock ticking on his old man’s playing days and influence too.

And now I wonder whether Lebron would let his kid choose the path that he feels is best for himself, even if it is 4 years in college; or whether Lebron would helicopter parent his kid to some overseas or prep or other route more than anything for the sake of Lebron’s own wishes.

If you're a 3-year college player, though, that suggests you are leaving early to play professionally. It can get a lot worse for him than that.

People are losing their minds and LeBron's kid hasn't even finished high school...

The people who dislike LeBron did so long before these comments. Come on man.

Let's stop pretending like Savannah James doesn't exist. She would never let that go down. She by all accounts is a fantastic parent, as is LeBron.

Some of this stuff is ridiculous.
