Big game for Baylor Monday night.

Bears could be 13-4 before KU plays their final 3 games.

We certainly know what needs to be done.

But it's been a very long time where I actually felt like they actually had a chance of winning it all even with having a recruiting advantage over most schools.
3rd highest winning % in the NCAA tournament since 2010.
I guarantee you the two other teams ahead of him have had a recruiting advantage.

We’ve come up short in every high stakes road game this season and managed to lose them all in unique ways.

We came out tonight like gangbusters and looked like a well-oiled machine. Then Self got cute with the lineup and Drew found an answer to not having JTT…

Self didn’t make adjustments. Nobody could make shots.

We took a step back tonight and now play 3 games the next 7 days.

Let’s see what happens, but if we end up sharing the title you have to look back on road games that we found ways to lose. Tonight being one. Austin another.
None of this really matters, it’s about how you do in the tourney.

There was a long stretch in the 2nd half where Akinjo just took offensive possessions off. He would literally stand in the corner with his hands on his knees.

Of course he didn’t need to do much when we let Sochan score at will…

Turning point of the game, and maybe you could call it coaching, but you got your 1st team AA a screened shot, was with 3:58, with 29 seconds on the clock.

Ochai just jacks that 3 down 2.
Dave gets called for a weak sauce foul on the next possession, they go up 5.

Turning point of the game: Self sitting Och and CB at the same time and thus allows Baylor to turn a 13 point deficit to 3. We never recovered.

BTW,

Mitch played 3 minutes and had 4 fouls. Registered 0 stats otherwise.

It’s time to move on from this loveable Jayhawk and give more time to KJ and Clemence.

Yeah we went flat for too long 1st half, despite coming out hot.

But it’s not that we never recovered.

We were in it the whole game, until the last few minutes, when we couldn’t finish, again

Well, that started the mess. Allowing 49 second half points because Self couldn’t figure out a lineup to counter Drew’s 5 small lineup was the biggest problem we faced.

Baylor played well. Was fortunate. Got some key calls. KU did not hit open looks. Harris did not play well. But it was basketball. The invasion of Ukraine might easily spill out of control as a desperate Putin does desperate things. Enjoy what we have for as long as we have it.

Self is great at putting together top 10 to 25 teams consistently (regardless of where they are actually ranked) but can't seem to ever put together a team that's even close to dominant. I wouldn't mind seeing someone else as the KU HC soon.
It's been 2 whole seasons. The Dok and Dotson team legitimately could have won it all. Let's not lost our minds.

We complain when he doesnt play the bench enough then we complain if he plays it too much.

Despite the extra minutes for the bench, the KU starters looked tired down the stretch. Maybe Bill realizes how his own team I'd doing and was trying to get them to the end with enough in the tank but they just didn't have it?

KU starters lost this game. From what I can see, every single shot in the last 12 minutes of the game was taken by a starter. They went 3-15 from the floor and went from leading by 2 to losing by 10 in those 12 minutes.

This.

Baylor is a top 10 team.
Kenpom has them top 5.
We lost at their place which they packed the house for and were screaming at the top of their lungs.

Cant miss so many shots.
I dont pin this one on Bill as much as other games this season.

Bill:

""You play a top-10 team on the road. It was a missed opportunity because we played so well early and then our shot selection was poor and they took advantage of us shooting some quick shots and not playing through David when we should have in the first half some. And they got it back to one at halftime and then the second half, I thought we did some good things the first five to seven minutes. I really did. But you could say it's a missed opportunity. But I didn't go into game thinking that this was going to be a great opportunity or percentage opportunity. I went into the game thinking we're gonna have to play really well in order to win and we didn't play well enough."

When it was close in the last 8 minutes or so, KU missed multiple free throws, including at least two front end of 1 and 1s. I counted at least 7 lost points from free throws which would have had KU still ahead in the last few minutes. We could have been playing with the lead instead of trying to come from behind with Baylor being the one rushing shots. I think free throw shooting in the clutch cost us this game as much as anything.
