It’s the typical socialist mindset that anything is doable just by ordering it to be done.

And it's the typical conservative republican mindset to manipulate our government and laws to privatize profits and socialize risk.kubandalum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 5:09 am It’s the typical socialist mindset that anything is doable just by ordering it to be done.
Care to tell us which president is the only one since the 1950's to balance a federal budget?

The same old filthy, pollution rich, republican "deal":
Trump promised to rescue the coal industry. But he can't
The Trump administration attempted a daring rescue of the coal country, but the pro-coal agenda is failing to jump-start a renaissance — and analysts don't see one on the horizon.
Despite trying for nearly two years to prop up coal by rolling back climate regulations, the industry remains in sharp decline — coal consumption peaked in 2007. The shale boom created a glut of cheap natural gas in America, and the costs to deploy wind and solar continue to plunge.
US coal consumption is projected to decline by nearly 4% in 2018 to the lowest level since 1979, the US Energy Information Administration said on Tuesday. At year-end, appetite for coal will be a staggering 44% below 2007 levels.
It's all about an industrywide shift by power plants away from coal in favor of natural gas and solar, wind and hydro power...

Re: Green New Deal
Ocasio-Cortez is a nutjob.
Heart may be in the right place with some of this stuff, but she needs fact checked nearly as much as the president.
I'm all for cleaner energy and being more green....but no cars is pretty unrealistic. In general, she's pretty unrealistic.

Re: Green New Deal
why is no cars unrealistic?
maybe you should travel more, experience the world...

Re: Green New Deal
i laugh at folks who say independence from fossil fuels is unrealistic
why?
human innovation is an amazing, wondrous thing. it can solve most any problem if only given the opportunity (if we can get out of our own way)

Re: cars, yeah they’re a pretty integral part of our infrastructure, lifestyle, commerce, etc.
So the question isn’t really no cars, but rather efficient cars.
And didn’t Trump recently roll back efficiency regulations for auto manufacturers?

You can move towards independence from fossil fuels without banning cars... and i didn't say independence from fossil fuels is unrealistic.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 8:37 am i laugh at folks who say independence from fossil fuels is unrealistic

A smart guy once told me innovation is an amazing, wondrous thing....so innovate. Make more cars that are electric or something else that doesn't require gas/oil.
You think the people in rural united states are going to have trains and public transportation everywhere the need to go? Some people I work with travel 30min to work everyday from nearby small towns. It's unrealistic to think individual vehicles can be eliminated. Not everyone lives in NY or Chi or DC where there is good public transportation options.
Re: Green New Deal
my mistake...cars, as we know them, have to go away
but that includes materials as well as power sources

Re: Green New Deal
I'm good with it, as long as it's going to make a difference. The problem is we are just 1 country...what happens when most others don't follow suit?
That's obviously going to be an issue with nearly everything environment related... but still not an excuse to do/try nothing.
Re: Green New Deal
Amember the Paris Agreement?
We’re the ones not following suit.

Re: Green New Deal
why is it so hard/difficult to just do the right thing and lead by example?
somebody has to, so why NOT the “greatest country on earth”?

Re: Green New Deal
Wasn't part of the reason we exited the agreement because it was somewhat unfair to the United states?
