Big "many people are saying" energy here.

I don't mean this with any particular meanness: the reason that "stick to sports" and "shut up and dribble", while crude, persist, is that often the success and virtuosity of professional athletes (and actors and musicians and so on) is because of their (1) singular focus and (2) ability to tune/drown out introspection and doubt.

These are admirable qualities in many ways!

But they do make one an unreliable source of, say, public health advice.

my point was that the people in charge weren’t following the science then because it was inconvenient…such is also the case now, because it’s inconvenient

covid has now been documented in pangolins, one the most trafficked wild animals on the planet. evidence is growing that zoonotic back-spill is possible from deer to humans. new variants continue to emerge (no, mich, i didn’t make up deltacron). the developed world has decided they’re done with covid, science damned, and will now relegate it to the developing world…much like any number of other diseases that were once widespread but now only impact the tropical poor

Thankfully some states (that aren't broke too) will be able to continue those types of services.

States have tax dollars too. And tbh they are probably better suited to assess their local health situations/needs than the federal government.
