NFL Offseason 2022
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
Honey Badger was not on point this year. Kind of sulked all year when he didn't get an extension. And the Chiefs got better.
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
I don't think the Chiefs got better by loosing Mathieu.
They need to retool the defense and move that money around so I get it.
But they aren't better right now - they are down Ward and ( very very likely ) Mathieu.
How's that better?

Re: NFL Offseason 2022
Well they can still sign Mathieu if he agrees to a lower amount, right? I don't think he's signed on with another team...yet. Mathieu and Reid would be a good combo.

Re: NFL Offseason 2022
I will honestly say that after the way the secondary played this year, I don't feel bad about losing any free agents out of that unit. Mathieu had a real decline this past year. Maybe that was a motivation/effort thing since he didn't get a contract extension, but Justin Reid has the very real possibility to become a younger, cheaper version of Mathieu which would be an upgrade. Obviously KC has a lot of needs on the defensive side of the ball (all over the secondary and the defensive line) so letting some of these guys walk isn't that negative in my mind.
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
I like the Chiefs moves so far. Ward was good player, but just not worth that kind of money. I think KC may have went as high as 3/33M with 20-22M guaranteed. But, these are the tough decisions you have to make in the NFL.
Mathieu either is, or is about to be, past his prime. Sucks when players like this have to go, but it's the right move for KC. Maybe there is still a contract out there that works for both parties, but signing Reid is the better long term investment for KC.
Reworking Clark's contract is also a great move. Outside of a certain posters irrational hatred of him, Clark is a good DE.
Franchising Orlando Browns is a no brainer and whatever long term deal they agree to will likely be a good move.
KC has received 3 compensatory picks so they have some decent draft picks to work with including 5 picks in the top 110
1 - 30
2 - 62
3 - 94
3 - 103
3 - 109
4 - 149
6 - 215
7 - 241
7 - 249
7 - 258
7 - 266
**Picks in rounds 4-7 might be slightly off

Re: NFL Offseason 2022
After seeing the way Veach operates in the draft, I have no doubt he'll trade some of those 7th round picks to get an extra pick in the 5th or 6th round. I don't see any way the Chiefs actually go to the podium that many times. They'll make a trade for a higher round pick over sheer quantity.
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
What do you guys think about trying to get Carl Nassib? I think he has done some damage to the Chiefs in the past. I don't follow salary and cap numbers as much as other so don't know if he fits from that point of view.
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
The problem is that those 7th round picks have virtually no value.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 11:04 am After seeing the way Veach operates in the draft, I have no doubt he'll trade some of those 7th round picks to get an extra pick in the 5th or 6th round. Also, there seems to be some confusion regrading the 3rd round compensatory picks. KC may only have 103 or 109 listed above and not both.
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
I like Nassib. Depends on numbers.
Cap space and draft value will make KC better this year. I would like to sign or trade for another corner, and maybe get some value at WR, but the Chiefs will have a ton of new speed on defense.

Re: NFL Offseason 2022
All depends on the contract. He's underperformed with the Raiders so he'd have to take a "prove it" type contract with a lot of incentives.
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
I like KU's Kyron Johnson a lot as a speed rusher. I know the Chiefs have him on the radar at least.
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
This is what the NFL just released, looks like KC only received 2 compensatory picks, not 3. Still some confusion over the 6-208 pick
1 - 30
2 - 62
3 - 94
3 - 103
4 - 135
6 - 208 (may be going to Pittsburgh)
7 - 233
7 - 243
7 - 251
7 - 259
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
It feels like Mathieu is finding out the hard way that he may have a higher opinion of his value than any NFL teams do. It will be interesting to see where he ends up and at what number.Cascadia wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:25 am I like the Chiefs moves so far. Re: NFL Offseason 2022
If the context is right, I would definitely take a chance on Julio Jones
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
Same.
But at the right price...maybe heavy incentives to protect against a lost season.

Re: NFL Offseason 2022
The good thing is that a Julio signing leaves draft picks for defense
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
I would rather the Chiefs sign Allen Robinson or JuJu but if they fail on both of those then Julio would be a nice Plan C.
The Chiefs need to ramp it up in this offseason. Teams have closed the gap on them and most believe that Buffalo has overtaken them based on their roster moves this offseason. We'll see how it plays out but KC has swung and missed a lot so far.
Re: NFL Offseason 2022
I just don’t see how KC can justify spending that kind of money on a second WR when they already have one of the best offenses in the NFL.

Re: NFL Offseason 2022
Wilson to DEN, Chandler Jones to LAS, Von Miller to BUF, [s]Brady's retirement[/s], et al. have kind of shifted power from NFC to AFC.
NFC last two SB's, NFC deeper in 2021, but looking like 2022 AFC could be deeper.
