March Madness 2022
Re: March Madness 2022
Some incredible circus shots. But playing a road game basically with a lot touch fouls. Not an easy draw for any coach

I don’t know if it’s just because they’re good, but it seems like lots of people on Twitter and the like are very anti-Gonzaga. Between Few and his DUI and lack of any true punishment and they’re weak conference and the like.
Just souring on a lot of people.

Nice that Penny finally remembered he was allowed to call timeouts.

Penny pissed away a 10 point lead at halftime and did not call a timeout until 22-seconds were left. Genius.

Either way, what a wide open tournament.

Re: March Madness 2022
Timme Tropic Thunder pretty much did what he wanted in the second half
Re: March Madness 2022
He sucked in the 2nd half. Left his guy in to get his 4th foul early in the 2nd half. No timeouts to slow the Gonzaga run. He was really bad.

Michigan in the sweet 16 but still hasn’t even won 20 games

We won 30.
That puts Self 3rd all time in 30 win seasons behind K and Roi.

I know it's just a philosophical thing, but I am torn on if i think calling timeouts during an opponents run truly does anything to stop the run unless you're calling it to make adjustments or get guys some rest.twocoach wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 11:05 pmHe sucked in the 2nd half. Re: March Madness 2022
Momentum/being in the zone is a thing.
Self is pretty good at timing timeouts to try to stop it.
Roi was not.

Re: March Madness 2022
I agree momentum is a thing, but i do not think timeouts always stop momentum. Occasionally when Self does it I think it actually makes our guys panic and the other team gets a free breather because of it. If you're switching defenses or making coaching adjustments I totally get it.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Underachievers most of the season. Only won 3 in a row once.
My hope is they win 20 games - and that's it.

Re: March Madness 2022
sure a timeout may not always stop momentum, but I think taking that TO to stop an opponent's momentum is the right choice like 99% of the time.
I dunno if our guys' perceived panic is a result of the timeout itself or of the fact they're getting gut punched in the first place. And the whole point of taking that timeout is to switch defense and make coaching adjustments. Even if you're giving the other team a free breather, that's still prob a better bet than just continuing to weather punches to the gut.
Generally, I'm surprised how many games I've seen in which coaches sat on timeouts down the stretch.
One possession game in crunch time, you want the best look possible, which (defensively or offensively) is more likely to come from talking it over in a TO.* Instead, these coaches just let their guys go out there and ad lib some shit, and it just seems less likely to actually execute.
even if it's not specifically a "curb momentum" kind of timeout, if you're sitting on 2-3 timeouts in a close game after the under-4, I'd rather use them than loose them.
*or maybe I'm just spoiled from mostly only watching a team with a HOF coach.

Re: March Madness 2022
Of course Penny should have taken time outs. When your team is failing to score and defend after taking a 10 point lead in to the half, you need to make adjustments - that clearly were not happening by letting them play through it.
I am in a high steaks (spelled that way on purpose being that it's a steak dinner to the winner) pool with two buddies and they both have the Zags winning it all. Two consecutive games I was salivating at half time - only to realize my bank account is probably going to take a hit when the game ended.

Re: March Madness 2022
Phantom fouls, circus shots, and bad officiating kept Greg from having to call any time outs when we had significant momentum.
Re: March Madness 2022
It fails to stop a run 100% of the time when not done.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 6:15 amI agree momentum is a thing, but i do not think timeouts always stop momentum.
