I hope that both Braun and Wilson return and that Gradey Dick is good enough to replace Agbaji (in the rotation, not in his production). Harris, Braun, Dick, Wilson and whoever floats to the top of the big man rotation with Yesefu the first guard off the bench.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:03 am Yesefu will be alright tho. Hes got a big opportunity ahead of him at KU if he sticks around

Re: March Madness 2022
If yesefu learns to defend and take care of the ball closer to how harris is, then the sky is the limit as far as college guards go. His natural ability is crazy. We haven't seen a comfortable/relaxed version of yesefu yet. We should next year. When he has some familiarity with self and the offense and knows he's playing 20+ minutes

I hope they come back too. But in this day and age I wouldn't expect it. I hope they both play their senior years here.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:06 amI hope that both Braun and Wilson return and that Gradey Dick is good enough to replace Agbaji (in the rotation, not in his production). And I keep hearing Grady dick is going to be the best freshman we've had here in a long time. He should be ready

This is partly why I think it could just be a bad fit with Yesufu, style and personality. Elijah ended up not being a great fit despite having a ton of talent and potential.KUTradition wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:00 am the counter point to that though, is that it forces guys to do what Self wants (otherwise they get pulled)
it would seem like they would do better taking care of the ball, and then run the offense the way their coach wants…both sooner than if they had no fear/worries about getting pulled
I think Bill can be too stubborn with certain guys, but he hits way more than he misses with guys.

i also think it’s pretty telling that, for whatever reason, Bobby was still challenging Yes for minutes despite the injury and covid setbacksCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:12 amThis is partly why I think it could just be a bad fit with Yesufu, style and personality. I've been of the opinion that CB is very likely gone if we make Final Four or beyond--he's just not falling on draft boards, even not falling out of the 1st Round.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:06 amI hope that both Braun and Wilson return and that Gradey Dick is good enough to replace Agbaji (in the rotation, not in his production). But, I've also been thinking lately that there's a good chance Wilson leaves, too, being his 3rd year in program and having already looked at playing professionally. Plus, a Final Four or beyond and the work here is done.
Can definitely see:
Harris or Yesufu
Rice or Transfer
Dick
Adams
McCormack or Clemence

I think Bobby had an easy transition because he was just asked to do the one thing he is really good at: put your head down and run. But damn, Bobby just has no semblance of a jump shot. That's not fixing our backcourt issues in 2023.KUTradition wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:16 ami also think it’s pretty telling that, for whatever reason, Bobby was still challenging Yes for minutes despite the injury and covid setbacksCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:12 amThis is partly why I think it could just be a bad fit with Yesufu, style and personality. Re: March Madness 2022
The thing about DH is that it's a situation where perception matters more than reality.
As long as other teams don't guard him, and he doesn't make them pay, it doesn't matter what his FG% is...he can go 2 for 3, but if they continue to guard like that, it means that on all the other possessions where DH didn't shoot, we're playing 4 on 5.
With Creighton, they seemed to employ that strategy against "KU guards" and Remy made them pay for it. Most other teams only do it against DH. So it doesn't really matter if DH shoots a higher % than Yesefu, if they defend DH, and DH specifically like that, it's really tough to play him.
If you're a DH supporter and want him to play, the answer is simple, he's gotta knock down the open shots they're giving him and make them pay.
What I find interesting is seeing whether other teams do this if/when Yes/Bobby play going forward, becuase other than Creighton, it seemed very much like a scouting report specific to DH and teams stopped doing it anytime a different guy played PG.

Re: March Madness 2022
Elijah was a PERFECT fit..... to play the 2 and be a secondary ball handler and guard. We made a run to the title game with him playing that role. But then he got cast into a "floor general/lead guard" role and yeah.. you are correct sir.. we all know what happened thereCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:12 amThis is partly why I think it could just be a bad fit with Yesufu, style and personality. I feel like yesefu would thrive more playing next to more of a natural point guard (dajuan harris)
Yesefu needs to be able to use his quickness and be more of an offensive spark than be a guy who's expected to be the coach on the floor/safety net

Both dajuan and yesefu need to improve their shooting and give us more consistency from beyond the arc, but honestly their games compliment eachother pretty well in bill selfs 2 point/combo guard system

Yesufu would benefit by playing next to 2012 Tyshawn. And really, not many wouldn't.
Re: March Madness 2022
I could see Yes in the same role that Remy's got right now, which is basically the Fr/So Collins role.
Self has seemed to want to divide players as bigs/guards, but it really seems like going forward, we have 3 positions...combo Gs, Wings, and Bigs.
To me, Self's gotta settle into a rotation of 3 G for 2 spots, 3 wings for 2 spots, and 2 bigs for 1 spot. With some flexibility between guards/wings and bigs/wings in future seasons. So, an 8 man rotation.

I wouldn't expect much from zuby or udeh next season. Zuby seems like a guy that can a very good 4 year big that might not play much early. Udeh has a crazy amount of talent, not sure how ready he will be right off the bat, but definitely out most talented true big since dok.
Both will have to catch up to clemence and adams tho. And there is also cam Martin too who knows

Re: March Madness 2022
Freshmen bigs are rarely ready to contribute to Self's system. I think the assignments are just too complex. Embiid was the rare freshman who was able to change that and he was a savant at sponging up the info provided by the coaching staff. His improvement over a short period of time was insanely unique.TDub wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 12:30 pmwhat about Udeh or ZubyCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:16 amI've been of the opinion that CB is very likely gone if we make Final Four or beyond--he's just not falling on draft boards, even not falling out of the 1st Round.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 11:06 am

It is easier for bigs than guards. No switching and way less help-side defense. There just seems to be less turn over with bigs here, so most will start off the bench, and I assume that's how the frosh next year will start.twocoach wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 1:22 pmFreshmen bigs are rarely ready to contribute to Self's system.
