We don't know what justification they used to open an investigation. The NYT report states that "The decision to investigate Mr. Trump himself was an aggressive move by F.B.I. officials." Aggressive -- and based on "feelings" they had about Trump's exercise of his power as the head of the executive branch. If that's all there was, then the FBI has a problem.

The FBI bases decisions on “feelings?”
That’s beneath you.
That’s beneath you.
Re: i wonder what Robert Mueller is thinking
Perhaps a poor choice of words.
But read the original NYT article. That's basically what it says, although they use the words "concern" "suspicions" instead of "feelings."

He's not agreeing! He must be making excuses! Grab the pitch forks!
Re: i wonder what Robert Mueller is thinking
Nah, he's just muddying the waters. I do agree with him that it is important that the FBI behave with an acceptable level of standards. There's just a lot of people with half buckets of information on each side making assumptions about whether they did or not. Not to mention people on different sides defining "acceptable" differently.
We don't know the full information used to justify opening an investigation. I don't think it should take much more than a question about whether or not something shady happened to OPEN an investigation. To me, that's an acceptable standard for opening an investigation. They are by definition the Federal Bureau of INVESTIGATIONS. They shouldn't sit back and wait until it is obvious that something bad has happened.

Yes the hypocrisy is nauseating.
All the times you or someone else says "stop bringing up Clinton".....and then here you are bringing up Clinton.
I see how this works.

Geezer still heavily medicated.
Actually, it's worse. It's Geezer, once again, coming down on the side of the government's jackboots. How far he's come.
So, to clarify (for twocoach): the only justification for any of this ever made public is the Steele Dossier, which is opposition research and nothing more. We don't know any more, because neither the Tomes nor it's sources said anything. My expectation is that it will all come back to the dossier, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.
