It's that it has the national title trophy in it. But yeah, I agree with you.

https://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-c ... 50435.html

CBS Sports and Turner Sports said it was the most-viewed NCAA men’s championship game telecast ever on cable television. “The Kansas/UNC game delivered an average of 18.1 million viewers, based on total audience delivery, an increase of 4% over last year’s national championship (Baylor vs. Gonzaga),” Turner Sports said in a news release. Last year’s title game was on CBS.

The networks said the ratings for the entire tournament (with the 67 games airing on CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV) averaged 10.7 million total viewers and a 17.0 share (percentage of households or viewers watching TV at that time) per game. Both were an increase of 13% over last year, and the 17.0 share is the best for the entire men’s NCAA Tournament since 1994.

So much for the theory that NIL was going to result in the loss of people paying attention to college basketball.

I would guess it's quite a few less viewers than when it was on CBS.

Not trying to be illy/gutter--I actually think it means the game should be on CBS, but perhaps the viewers' move to streaming makes having it on a "cable" channel more appealing.

8.5 out of 10 people that tuned into the tournament have no idea what NIL is.

go to the mall and ask the first 10 people you see what NIL is. 8.5-9 will have no idea what you are talking about.

but, you knew this much.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Interesting how a game that has record breaking TV audience was also a record breaker for lowest ticket price.

Fanatics has the official gear because that's what KU uses. That's what I used when I got like 5 or 6 shirts. lol

Love this thread! Instead of waking up the past few days in a dark depression, I’m walking on clouds. Watched the game three times since Monday and I get verklempt every time. Don’t expect that to ever change. So happy for the team! Rock Chalk!

I think the country is a little excited to escape to basketball rather than discuss war, inflation, and pandemic? Even look up work folks they might not have seen in person the last two years.

In Mitch’s neck of the woods (where no one gives a shit) you can actually get your oil changed, a pedicure, a Hallmark card, your taxes done AND do a change of address at “The Mall”

Right? Who the fuck goes to a mall? And then, what kind of weirdo thinks that’s the best place to engage college basketball fans?
