Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
Don’t get that one. Maybe he wants a spread offense or Emmett Jones is in his ear to go to Tech. KU wants to be an offense focused on running backs and tight ends, but this still hurts a bit.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
Outside of Mayberry and Arnold, everyone transferring out were guys that didn't have a clear or direct path to playing time. They would have been buried on the depth chart and the coaching staff was likely going to be in a position to recruit over them anyway. Plus, they likely didn't fit in with the new coaching staff's schemes.
But I'm kind of looking on the bright side like Newton here. Leipold and company went out and loaded up on running backs because they want to run the ball 40 times a game and control the clock. Multi-back sets with lots of versatility is the bread and butter of Kotelnicki's offense. In the grand scheme of things, we'll be ok. Just puts a little more pressure on guys like Trevor Wilson, Luke Grimm, and guys like that to step up.

Also, every person leaving is a Miles recruit. This isn’t Miles’ team anymore. To be expected. We got a bit lucky last year that not many left in the transition.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
That's a good bit of perspective. I think the timing of last year's change really forced a lot of people into staying just because it was so late in the game for them to find new landing spots. And now it's not just KU. The next 10 days or so are going to be crazy everywhere because players have to get their name in the portal by May 1 in order to be eligible to play this fall.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 7:52 am Also, every person leaving is a Miles recruit. Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
I think the transfer window should be contracted. It is starting to look like a bidding war rather than a careful decision. You lose a receiver? Look at the rosters of the struggling teams and cull what you want. For us, this isn't a great trend.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
What trend? Getting a freshman who was a bowl game MVP and led his Big 10 Minnesota team in rushing last year or a decent backup running back at Big 10 Nebraska? What about a player who was likely going to start at Ohio State in some role this next year or a starting corner at Michigan State.
We’ve gained more starters then lost starters as a whole. By far.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
I believe they did contract the transfer window. The deadline this year is May 1 when I believe last year it was June or July 1.They are efforting to try to not allow this type of movement all summer long. It's going go through some tweaks as these systems get put into place.

From Seth Mandel's Mailbag (via The Athletic):
We saw Kansas basketball win a national championship a couple of weeks ago. Is Kansas football ever going to be good? Is there hope on the horizon?
Frank R.
There is. In fact, as of this exact moment I’m the most optimistic I’ve been about Kansas football in a decade. Why? They hired a legitimately good coach.
Think about the previous coaches Kansas hired post-Mark Mangino. First, it was Turner Gill, who had one winning season in four years at Buffalo. Mind you, I thought he’d do well. Buffalo had been absolutely terrible prior to his arrival, and he led the Bulls to a surprise MAC championship. But in hindsight, it was a fairly limited resume.
From there: Charlie Weis (disaster from a mile away), David Beaty (cheap and underqualified) and Les Miles (by then a football dinosaur). Just complete administrative incompetence spanning three different athletic directors.
But lo and behold, despite the job not coming open until the spring, and despite Kansas first having to hire a new AD, Travis Goff, before he could then go hire a new football coach, Goff landed Lance Leipold, a guy I’d ranked among my top 25 coaches barely a month before. Leipold is more than proven, having won six national championships at Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater and taken Buffalo to a 10-win season and three consecutive bowls. His first Kansas team finished 2-10, but the Jayhawks got better down the stretch, memorably beating Texas and taking TCU and West Virginia to the wire. And that was all before signing a single recruit.
Leipold has still got a massive rebuilding challenge on his hands, but history tells us a good coach can be successful just about anywhere. You heard it here first: Leipold will get Kansas to a bowl game within the next two seasons.

No clue who Frank R. is but he spot on about our coaches. No worries about transfers.InfiniteJ wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 6:43 pm From Seth Mandel's Mailbag (via The Athletic):

Scott ALIGO is the Director of Scouting for KU. We didn't get ALIGO from Buffalo he came from MSU. Tucker and ALIGO blew up the roster and had 30 players hit the transfer portal and replaced them with 15 new players from the portal. We going to get a lot more out of the portal than we will lose.

"Scott R" was the dude who asked the question, Seth Mandel provides the answer.

It hurts to lose a couple of good players to transfer, but at this point in the rebuilding process it is more important to have players who are bought in to what Leipold is trying to do. Eventually, you hope to have a bunch of good players who are bought in. I think things are going in that direction.

Not sure how this is all going to shake out, but there's an interesting twist to the Lawrence Arnold story.
1. Announces his intention to transfer on Tuesday
2. As of Friday night, his name was still not in the transfer portal
3. He has since deleted the tweet announcing he was leaving KU
