Transfer portal 2022
Re: Transfer portal 2022
I think Darren's head is in the sand like several here.
They actually think Tshweibwe and Nigel Pack are getting money because of publicity.
If those players had decided not to attend those schools, those contracts would never have happened. It's not about publicity.
If you want to argue about whether these players should get paid by boosters or companies with connections to the school TO ATTEND THAT SCHOOL then enter the arena. Otherwise stop pretending it actually has to do with NIL.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
If Oscar had transferred to Kennasaw, he would not have seen a cent of that two million.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
Yea.
It’s hilarious.

Right, we can all discuss how awful the ncaa is and all the mistakes it's made until we're blue in the face.pdub wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 2:39 pm I think Darren's head is in the sand like several here.

But the fact is, that created a well oiled infrastructure of boosters, donations, bribes, etc. that doesn't exist ANYWHERE else. The Lakers can't go to Jack Nicholson asking for a donation to build a new hall of fame, nor can they ask Leonardo dicaprio to put LeBron in a movie for a $15 million cameo as a way to get around salary cap restrictions....but that's essentially what we have and is currently happening in college sports.
I only came to kick some ass...

That’s what you get when you don’t submit to the free market!!!!

And it’s just going to take some time for things to settle. Because the NCAA aggressively, arrogantly failed to plan for any of this, all of this shit is hitting the fan at once. It’s very messy!
But it will pass.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
A culture of cheating that's been perfected and incentivised over decades is just going to stop as soon as jfish26-approved rules are established.
Got it.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
I think the cheating will end because players won't have to go to school and will get paid "market value" through the Universities. And the Universities will profit and pay up to a central organization.
The question is will there be salary caps.
The question is will there be salary caps.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
What? That’s not what I said at all.
I’ve said ten times in the last three pages that it’s going to take some time for all of this to find its level (which of course it will).
Change is turbulent.
Those who avoid filling diapers reacting to the turbulence will have clean shorts when the plane lands, which of course it will.

Salary caps....sounds racist to me.

When I suggested there should be rules or limitations I was called an idiot or a racist.

Ask yourself the same thing. Does hearing about it make it better?ousdahl wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 10:58 am did you prefer the previous transfer rules? back when a player had to sit a year.
and/or back before these attempts to "Make financials public/transparent?"
is it that you just didn't want to hear about it? if an amateur sport requires all the "professional" elements to be prohibited (read: kept under the table), is it really an amateur sport?
Does 'transparency' make bribes more fun?
Also, this whole, student athletes couldn't go make millions of dollars on their own and still play seems very similar to a lot of Republican arguments about transgenders. These are things that are very rare, but we want to legislate for everyone based on these rare exceptions.
If a player could get a role in a movie, based on his acting talents, of course he should be allowed to remain eligible. You could address these things individually as they happen. They're incredibly rare.

It's also fair to say that multimillion dollar NIL deals are incredibly rare.

I’m too lazy to look it up in the F the NCAA thread but JFish and co. better be furiously editing previous posts before they get quoted.

Ok, so we’ve established that movies are ok.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 3:26 pmAsk yourself the same thing. Does hearing about it make it better?ousdahl wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 10:58 am did you prefer the previous transfer rules? back when a player had to sit a year.

So, a college basketball player would be cool to get $2mm to reprise Kareem’s role in an Airplane remake?
Or would that fail, because the player would be cast for his NIL, not his acting talent?
Sounds like a rule made in NCAA heaven.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
I’m not establishing movies are ok bc I know how quickly that shit would get taken advantage of.
It’s four or fewer years where the rules seem odd to some but you’re 18-24. Choose whether your priority now is to learn or to make money.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
nearly all of the $1Billion revenue the NCAA generates comes from March Madness and most gets paid back out to the universities that participated. it doesn't seem that this would be worthwhile for the Creightons and Xaviers of the world if they aren't getting that money. ultimately that would lead to a much less interesting/competitive/etc. outcome.
